Mount Annan lap distance confusion

Hi,

According to the Mt Annan enduro trail map at http://www.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_f... the full lap of the trail is 4+3=7km. However, looking at the results of the Round 3 Shimano MTB GP and calculating the distance from my average speed and time the lap comes to 12km. Have they made a mistake with the average speed calculation or is it actually 12km? Would be good to know whether I did X or 12/7*X km...

I can tell you with certainty that the trail is not 12km. The full trail is around 9km and that map is showing the old shorter trail (which I think was used for the race) and 7kms is roughly correct. If you are doing your calculations correctly then I would believe your source data is incorrect.

The Enduro Trail Map is based on the old course which had two basic 'loops' - the blue loop and the green loop. In total the old course was only around 6km. Since then a new secction has been added - the one that starts with the rock roll-down then winds its way up the hill. It's now around 9km. The "average speed" readings given on the results aren't acurate.

We reckoned it was probably around 9km.

Maybe someone on here has a Garmin trace with a wheel sensor to confirm?

There was a fair bit of drama about the actual lap on the 'Hot Laps' of this forum.

There are a couple of inane 'out and back' sections that really dont actually feel like part of the loop that sometimes get included. I think, if you did the fullest loop possible you could probably get 11 or 12km out of it.

The loop from the Sydney 24 last year was 9.6 k's which includes the little loop in the middle between the blue and green loop and the fireroad at the end .
I think that is listed as the race hot lap loop , or something similar

...it makes sense, it felt like somewhere between 9 and 10km indeed.

Shows about 8.2kms with the extra firetrail at the south end of the trail. The trail used for the Jet Black 24hr.

The Latest RTE Shimano GP lap according to my Garmin (no wheel sensor) was around 8km, RTE said it was around 8.2 or something to that effect. My Garmin said I did 104.xxkms and I did 13 laps.

The lap was slightly different for this GP, when compared to the JB 24 held at the begining of the year. Nothing major, but a couple of bits were omitted and as far as I could tell, one small bit added. I actually liked the way they set up the transition and pit areas this event, it worked really well.
