How does Duck Hole & Chiltern hold up in wet periods

HI All

I haven't ridden Duck Hole or Chiltern tracks before, how do they hold up in wet periods? (As an alternative to the Japanese School to the end of the Long Trail)?

Cheers

The suggestion is that duck hole holds up better than most (http://nobmob.com/node/40318). Hawkeye please let me know if im wrong. If the weather improves enough this week I plan to ride the duck holes, chiltern and centre track loop this Sunday morning, might put a ride up here to join if anyone else is interested.

... so you can't do much damage. Centre Track is mainly ridge top so drains pretty well. It's actually the original road out to West Head, which explains why it is shaped a little differently to your standard fire trail in some places (the descent down to the road at the northern end is a deviation from the old road). Duck Holes / Terry Hills trail is a bit more prone to standing water and softer patches, but it's generally a sandy base so it's not too bad with a day to dry out.

Duck Holes + Centre is the usual wet weather loop. As mentioned, it drains the best of any of the trails in the area, and being fire trail the damage we'll do is a tiny fraction of what a single pass by a 4WD would cause.

However, your drive train and brakes will still shred themselves. So whether you take up this option depends on your tolerance for hearing your running gear self destruct as you ride.

I'm a bit over that these days. So I tend to pull the hardtail out and bust out a road loop of Akuna Bay and West Head. That'll test yer legs Smiling See how many roadies you can embarass up the climbs Eye-wink

Edit: Looks like Perimeter and Long aren't too bad at the moment so long as you start at the Jap School, according to Black Flash's trail status report. Despite the 200mm it's not a mudfest; surprising. Probably due to the extended hot spell preceding.

Duck Hole & Cetre Track are OK. Centre Track is defenately OK but if you want to respect your driveline.....leave it for a few more days. i didn't go along duckhole single track section. but i'd say, stay well away from the sing;e track section for bit more.

Thanks everyone I appreciate the info .. however bad news from the Doc .. I broke my wrist pre-xmas and its not healing, which means a month off the bike! DAMN

Going to ignore Doctors orders for OMV on Saturday but then its a month of nothing. Hopefully it rains all February Laughing out loud

unlucky fracture but could have been much worse. did you damage the scaphoid as well of just the radius.

be careful if your riding with it. its in good position at the momment and a change in alignment could mean a date with a surgeon.

Not the scaphoid thankfully.

I have been riding on it for 6 weeks but my wife made me get an x-ray .. probably good that I did.

No riding now for a month or so.
