I'm keen to canvas some opinion on good local bike shops for service and repair. I always come away from mine with a niggling feeling that I'm paying above the odds for spares and service and maybe not getting best VFM.
Anyone got any recommendations on other places I could try? I'm fairly central to the CBD so can go north or south, although north towards Hornsby would be easier as it's on the way to work.

Cranks Chatswood, though Paul is a little like a one armed paper hanger at the moment.
Or
Belrose Bicycles.
I always get excellent service at either shop.
When you are calculating the "value for money" at the LBS remember to factor in the service and convenience element as well as the years they spent developing a viable business in a competitive marketplace.
Another for Belrose
It's been a while since I went there now but Rhys and Leighton were both very helpful and gave a great service.
Belrose are also pretty good.
Bike Addiction continue to amaze me at how they are still in business.
A thumbs up for Rod at LeSpit Cyclery (Mosman).
Started going there because he's one of the few shops that stock Santa Cruz and haven't looked back.
Mind you, I do 90% of repairs myself but they've been very patient with me when it comes to sourcing annoying little spares for me or sending stuff in to the manufacturers.
Two thumbs up for Adrian at Belrose Bicycles, Legend wheel builder and alround bike mechanic. Must take after his old man at Northern Beachs Cycles. Not a big fan of Avanti at Narrabeen for some unknown reason.
I'm mostly a DIY kinda guy, but for stuff like fixing broken hubs and other time consuming stuff that involves sourcing particular parts I've had good results from City Bike Depot in Kent St, and the labour charge was reasonable.
While i had to get the dishing fixed as it was off centre by 5mm, once sorted the wheel build they did for me at Belrose Bikes was pretty darn good... has been very strong and reliable. I'm difficult to please.
+1 for Belrose Bicycles or Northern Beaches Cycles.
Both are great shops with ever reliable service at the right price.
I've always gone to Inner City Cycles, I brought my first MTB from them and they've been great ever since. They're mainly Giant dealers but will get any brand of spare if you need it.
They've posted on FB today that they've got a load of Fizik test saddles in. I didn't know that shops did test saddles!

Straight up and helpful on every occasion.
I my own repairs and appreciate Adrian's advice and no-fuss service - usually in and out in 5 minutes!
Yea Belrose is where I'd spent my money If I had to
+1 for Northern Beaches Cycles Narrabeen. Always helpful with advice and service.
Check out Ride In Workshop on Sydney Rd in Balgowlah. I used to take my bike to BA for years, but since discovering RIW I haven't been back.
Last time I was there I got a general service, plus a fork service (including oil and new seals) and a couple of other bits done for $185.
Highly recommended! http://www.rideinworkshop.com.au/
Wow, that does seem cheap!
+1 Adrian Belrose bike shop - he has been looking after my bikes for years.
If he can't do it he will organize for someone who can.

I like TBSM but having a mate that works there as a mechanic helps I guess.
They know what they're doing when it comes to suspension servicing. My last fork and shocks service cost me $200 includes parts and labour, which I think is a fair cost.
Belrose have done some small servicing for me, as it's the closest bike shop to work.
Got ripped off at BA at Manly when they charged me almost double for a bottom bracket so not going back there again.
Tbsm repaired the damper and tuned my fox float shock in a few days. Their suspension guy used to work for Solarsports (fox distributor) and is right onto it. Very reasonaby priced aswell.
