Bantry Bay Apocalypse
Anyone know what's going on at Bantry Bay? I was riding yesterday along the service/fire trail that runs parallel with Wakehurst parkway and towards the end where the exit to the old shut down loop used to be (near the dead end of Bantry Bay road), a massive area of bushland has been totally levelled.
Is there a new housing Development going in there or something? There's great views across the water over to Chatswood now.

Surely that is all national park isn't it? Can't see how it's going to be houses.
Perhaps they have started building the new MTB track
Pretty sure it's housing, I remember seeing it in recent times on a plan of management map. The hyprocracy is unbelievable, not to mention how disgusting the distruction of the natural bush is.
I have spent the last two years doing the right thing and not riding the awesome Bantry Bay single track, when the whole time they planned on bulldozing it anyway. What a f-ing joke. Slap in the face.
Appreciate Bantry Bay has been chosen for this new trail , but the way that mtbers were made to feel like environmental terrorist vandals for riding the b/b track ( and I have had my encounters with rangers and clueless "walkers") is beyond belief when they just go and level the bush land anyway.
I'm surprised there hasn't be more said about this already.
This was never national parks. Development seemed to stall with GFC.
Common sense doesn't come into this. Just planning laws, zoning etc.

Could have been worse I guess. At least there's not a massive unit block going in there.
You can even see the fence they erected down near the pole to stop riders accessing the old trail.
Hopefully we don't have the houses being built before we get the new trail up and running. Imagine if the new residents started throwing spanners and delaying the approval/build!
It was a hot topic among the locals, and therefore memorable, so I don't thnk it will be blamed on mtbers any time soon.
Here's the map from WMC's website. Note the exit from the Bantry Bay trail almost bisecting the site.
Apocalypse is right, I rode the Bantry Bay fire trail for the first time this morning, and in that particular location it seems very out of character for the area.
That being said, I wish I had the coin to buy one of the plots. Sweet location for a MTBer and the view!
