Round 1 of the Choc foot STM series was held in Taree this year - tracks I've managed to ride a few times.
With Taree being fairly far out and away from Sydney, I knew a few teams wouldn't make the trip out - although the trails would prove to be up with the best for racing. All the better for us.
I went out for a quick rece ride 2 weeks before the race weekend and was pretty impressed with the condition of the tracks. Come race weekend they were a bit drier and dustier but didn't show any signs of damage after the race.
Racing was very fast, the singletrack tight and twisty but very flowy. Average speed after lap 1 was over 22km/hr, which is fast for single track racing.
Team BMORC got off to a fairly good start but without any passing opportunities early, got held up a little through the singletrack by one bloke who shall remain nameless..............
Early laps were pretty fast and uneventful. Around halfway through the race the traffic started to get a bit worse but the end of the race was fine again.
The Flow mtb team had male 3's wrapped up after about 3 laps - punching out very consistent laps. We were travelling pretty well and went on to lap 3rd place. Luckily Flow didn't manage to lap us but came pretty close.
Good start to the series for team BMORC. Looking forward to Coondoo.......
Thanks to the GML Tip Riders for all the hard work on the track and all the vollies on the day.

Great work - interesting how close all your lap times were through the race.

The track didn't favour any of us in particular - no open flowy stuff for me to wind the speed up, no big hills for Paul to fly up and no tight, rocky stuff for Craig to pin through.
Great track but a real equaliser for everyone - I think I was 2 min off the fastest on the day overall.

I had a look at the results, and you were right up there with some fast lap times.

i was also impressed with some of the solo guys lap times and consistency. Looks like there weren't alot of hills giving the consistency in lap times over the course of the day.

Well done.

That's a great result Ian, well done to the 3 of you.

I can imagine how pumped Craig would have been with 2nd place!!

Be good to cross post this to the BMORC site too.

Not many hills Dicko which suited me just fine! The track rewarded smooth and fast riding through the corners. Those solo's are amazing - Mr English managed a 29min lap on his 12th lap!
Craig was as excited as you can imagine Steve.
Not sure how to post it over on BMORC Mick, I thought it would come up automatically.........
