Tathra Enduro Debrief

I have to share this experience.

Went down to Tathra to do the MTB enduro. Picked this event mainly because I've not done it and I've never been this far down on the south coast.

Tathra is a small community where a group of people have created unbelievable tracks. It's got fast flowing laughing out load tracks, technical bermed downhill runs, gnarly descents and best of all "The Bridges". I think it is the best tracks I've ridden. Better than what we ride at mont, scott and any other event we've all done.

The 100k event was as good as kowlaski classic with about 2000 meter climbing and the last 50ks on single tracks. Encountering the bridges at 85ks is challenging and the race was hard but definitely one of the best if not the best I've done and I think I've done most of them by now.

So, do yourself a favour and go down for a weekend and ride this area or even better do the race next year. I can guarantee that no one who goes will be disappointed. Apart from awesome riding the place is very beautiful and the surf is next to the tracks which is great for us who do both.

Cheers!

I've heard good things about down there. If it didn't fall between the week away racing at Atherton and The Convict I would have gone down there. Maybe next years race Smiling

Sounds like a great destination!

Il post a go pro vid once ive edited some footage together. The briges is basically a steep gulley and it will hurt to miss one. Quite a bit of concentration reqd to cross after 85ks.

I've had 2 riding holidays down at Tathra - it's definately up there with my favourite places to ride.
Great for a spring or Autumn holiday if you don't mind cold water for a dip in the arvo. Summer it gets busy and expensive, like any coastal town. I went there just after Christmas last year and had a great 3 days on my way to Mt Buller.
The riding is awesome - Poo Ponds tracks start down the bottom just out of town and climb up and down the hill. Fireshed tracks start up the top on the Bega rd and have less climbing and aren't so buffed but still great.
Bridges is a really fun flowdown style track - it has heaps of bridges crossing water courses. It gets pretty rocky and technical at times. The extension off Kingy's Climb is really technical too requiring total commitment or you'll be in trouble.

Spent some time last year riding at Tathra and enjoyed every minute. Besides the tracks mentioned close to town there is also Mandeni Park just down the road.

Here is some track footage

I was there the week prior to the enduro. There are a lot of trails the enduro didn't cover. We had a ball. The guys at the bike shop are alright too.
The boys from the club were sweeping the trails the days before the event. Imagine that!

All I can say is that if you weren't there u missed out!!!
Insane trails properly prepared , great weather and atmosphere. I'll be back next year.
