Hey everyone

Starting to do the sums for an upgrade on my current bike and was wonder what would be a realistic price for my old bike.

It's a 2011 Giant Anthem x2 (specs = http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-au/bikes/model/...)

Everything is standard except I put a more comfortable saddle on, but its nothing special. Its well looked after and in good working order with only a few scratches in the paint. The brake pads, fork oil and fork/shock seals were replaced in Jan '13. I would estimate that it has done less than 5000 Kms.

I was thinking around $1200 - $1000 what do others think.

If ur lucky.
Winter is coming, and MTBs are in less demand.

Doesnt help much but its worth as much as what someone is willing to pay for it.

It took me 5 seconds to find Bike Exchange is selling them for $1500 new http://www.bikeexchange.com.au/bicycles/giant/bi....

So for a 2 year old one probably half that, maybe a bit more if you are lucky.

I just sold my 08 Anthem on ebay by selling it in parts. My model usually goes for around $900 - $1000 as a whole bike but I got nearly $1500 by parting it out. Something to think about if the parts you have are reasonably in-demand ones.

I've been trying to sell a few bikes of late and its a very tough market to get a decent price (unless your the buyer).

The earlier comment that its only worth what someone wants to pay is pretty much spot on. I just started selling mine for what I thought they were worth and worked backwards.

As the seller, you will always assume that the bike is worth a lot more. The fact is, decentish bikes depreciate unbelievable quickly. If you think it's worth $2000, you will be lucky to see a bit more than half of that. I have bought and sold second hand bikes. Just don't set your expectations too high.
If you actually want to get rid of the bike, consider the offer that you get, even though they may be well below your reserve.

I've sold quite a few used bikes and parts here.
Be realistic, patient and open to offers,if your serious about selling.
Good high end steel bikes/frames hold value more so
than their aluminium counterparts.
