Cycling Express
Just over three weeks ago I placed a parts order with Cycling Express - I'm still waiting for the parts. When I chased up the order I was told some of the items were out of stock, although there was no indication of this when I placed the order. My last email asking for an update went unanswered.
I chose to use Cycling Express over Chain Reaction, and was even willing to pay a bit more to support an Aussie company. But in my experience the service from Chain Reaction is so much better and faster. My last order with Cycling Express took about 6 weeks to ship from memory.
Can anyone else recommend a good local supplier of parts? Just general stuff - drive train, brake pads etc.

i have used cycling express, pushys, and tbsm.com.au for small bits and pieces
I have tried Cycling Express and found them to be really slow too. The 'express' part is a lie.
You could try Cell Bikes if you want to stay local of Torpedo 7 which I think is from NZ with a local warehouse (and a very limited range of stock).
Otherwise stick with Wiggle, CRC or your LBS.
I had the same problems with Cycling Express, ended up going back and forth and finally asking... 'what do you actually have in stock'?
I did get an email this afternoon saying they were under new management and 24hr shipping from 1st Aug. Things might change but I'm not sure I'm prepared to try them again.
Yes, I just got the same email. I think I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and try one more time.
Be prepared to be disappointed. There is a long running thread on bicycles.net.au and it is mostly complaints about slow delivery, poor communication and poor service. Few if any responses with positive comments. The guy seems out of his depth and disorganized.
Pity.
Quick service and delivery, can't beat them really.
+1 for Cell
Ordered Tuesday night, delivered lunchtime Wednesday! outstanding!!
keep an eye on thier specials, join thier mailing list as they have some great deals from time to time.
I regularly use The Bike Shed Mortdale. I find communication good and delivery quick. Just this week I bought an EVOC bike bag from them and a few other odds & sods. Surprisingly prices on some items are quite competitive against Chain Reaction. Unless there is a significant price disadvantage I use them as I prefer to support a local business unless I feel I'm being ripped off and I am terribly impulsive so tend to make a purchase decisions and want it now!
I ordered a Garmin Egde 510 from Pushys.com.au a few weeks ago on a Monday around lunchtime... Was on my desk 10:30 Wednesday morning. Free delivery and way cheaper than the CRC or Wiggle prices. Obviously price comparisons differ product to product, but service/delivery was spot on!
I have ordered numerous times from Cellbikes on a Tuesday and the goods have been delivered on the Wednesday....amazing stuff (admittedly I am in Sydney).
With Cycling Express I had the same issues and eventually after 10 days I called up and told them to cancel the order and refund me, which they did. It was the only area of the business that seemed to work. I tried emailing before I called but no response. When I called, they looked and said that no email had been received.
I believe that you can now order online through BikeBug in North Sydney and then just pick it up on the way home (for those that it works for) and the online prices are apparently good. I have not tried this but heard it from another cyclist. If anyone else has tried it then please report back!
I've ordered online with BikeBug and collected on the way home. As I wasn't a registered user on their site I couldn't track my order which was fair enough. I got an email to say it was ready for collection and sure enough popped in gave them my name and they handed over the goods. This was all in the same day.
I'm sure it was an expensive item they would have wanted to see the invoice first.
Mountain Bikes direct are an Aussie company, I've used them once and had no problems. If it's just general stuff they'll have it, they probably do not yet have a range as varied as Chain reaction. Give them a go.
Well the saga continues with my order. I ordered a bottle cage and some brake pads, four weeks ago, and the order was originally delayed because the brake pads were out of stock. I called them today after 2 unsuccessful attempts to get updates via email, and was told that the brake pads are now in stock but they lost the bottle cage when they were moving from one warehouse to another. So my bottle cage won't be in stock until August 1.
Of course the website still says that the bottle cage is in stock. This is probably the biggest issue I have with cycling express-their website shows they have stock of an item so you place an order only to be told that there is no stock and you will have to wait a long long time.
The site can't be trusted. As everyone seems to report and my personal experience backs this up when you email there is generally no response or they can't find your email. You waste time on phone calls chasing up, finding out the alternative product you've chosen is also out of stock. I hope they are award of threads like this. Not sure how they can survive with such bad service. Good luck with the bottle cage.
Jenson USA has awesome turn around times. Order Friday and its in your hands on Monday. Great range and generally excellent pricing that even when you factor in the postage it's still a bargain.
It is now 5 weeks since I placed this order. I received the brake pads last week, but no bottle cage yet. There was no paperwork with the order, and the email seemed to say that all items were shipped ( ie no indication of the bottle cage being on backorder). So I emailed them today and will have to wait and see if I get a response this time - they never responded to my last 2 emails. I did receive an auto response today with a reference number, so that's an improvement over previous emails.
Considering all items were supposedly "in stock" when I placed the order...
By the way, the website still shows the bottle cage as being in stock, which is just not true. False advertising.
I tried Pushys for the first time last week. 2 days later I had my order as requested so I can add them to my list of good experiences.
Good to know for next time, thanks.
I ordered a wheelset for the roady & co2 cannistors for the 29er the wheelset turned up but no cannistors , I rang them a week later & they posted out the cannistors after the phone call so not too bad I suppose !!!
Just received this reply:
"Greetings,
Unfortunately, due to unforeseeable supply, the above item from the above order number is currently unavailable.
As a result we have already refunded the appropriate amount as indicated above."
...and yes, the item is still showing as "in stock" on their website.
So if you're planning to order from Cycling Express, buyer beware!

I ordered Wed 4am, received Wed 12pm. Can't beat that!
I recently got a garmin and was just going to mount it on the stem, unfortunately the stem is too short and I can't so I was looking for an after market mount. Looked on line and one of the cheapest option was a SRAM mount delivered for about $24.
Walked into SIC and the guy was honest enough to say he couldn't compete and it would be cheaper ordering on line. He offered to get one in if I wanted it. A+ for honesty and helpfulness. Walked across the road to Pedal Pushers in St Ives and asked what they had. Off the rack, the same SRAM mount $29 in my hand. Thank you very much! $4 isn't a large coffee at most places around here any more.
Don't forget it does pay to check your local guys, they may not always have the stock but there's no harm in checking first.
I have used both wiggle and CE and had good experiences each time
I use these guys cause of their promotions. Just recently bought 6 Continental tyres for 40% less than in the shop. Happy to wait a couple of days to save some $$$. The site is easy to use aswell.
