Manly Dam okay to ride Feb 2?
Just wondering on peoples opinions on if Manly Dam will be okay to ride tomorrow morning given all the rain we've had the last day and night. Just unsure if i should cancel a planned ride with a few mates tomorrow or not ...thoughts?

Very much a personal thing Starship, but in my view and morally speaking, given the amount of rain we've had over the past 24 hours (and I understand there is more to come), I believe it does the trails no good at all to ride on them. Unfortunately, Manly Dam, with the clay, sand and rock mix, is fairly susceptible to erosion (I rode in Squamish, Canada for a year where it rains just about every day, but with mud trails the erosion is minimal). From a legal perspective, it's fine to ride the Dam until the Ranger posts a sign saying "Bike Trail Closed". I understand that at this point in time it is still open. Leave it up to you.
wondering the same thing for the same reason Starship...
it does drain well but i guess it depends on the rain quantity...
Basically no
if it rains at the dam, stay away until it has time to dry out
common sense people you dont need signs for that do you.
isn't my forte!!
seriously though we will probably go to west head - and then when i walk the dogs down at the dam i will feel totally entitled to give the death glare to anyone who rides their bikes past me...
..i have to agree actually. I just saw it starting to dry out a bit outside and probably got my hopes up (and was more wanting feedback from people who may live in the area as to how wet it would be around there). Obviously if we do get any further rain i would definitely call it off anyway.
Have to admit I myself am normally fairly strict when it comes to staying off the trails in the wet. Besides, it saves me the 2-3hr post-ride clean!
Cheers,
I live just at the northern end of the dam at Allambie Heights.
My son and I have ridden it once in the wet, only because it started raining while we were on the trail and it was our very first time doing a full lap. The track got slick and soft amazingly fast.
Unless it's had a few days to dry out, we stay away. From our observation, riding in the wet causes a lot of damage very quickly. So please folks, use your commonsense give the Dam a break in the wet.
We may have a look at the fire trails at Terrey Hills as a wet weather alternative. Thoughts?
The Dam is now closed for riding till further notice.
