Talas/Float conversion 140mm

Hey all,

Wondering if anyone has done a talas to float conversion on a 32mm fork (or who has worked on floats a bit). I've got all the parts but wasn't sure which way the negative spring cup is inserted into the stanchion. Is it so the spring sits inside the cup when installed? Or other way around so cup is upside down and spring sits on outside base of cup if that makes sense. I assembled it dry the first way and have 148mm showing on the stanchion after putting 60 psi in it. That's from top of dust seal lip to crown.

Any input appreciated,

Cheers.

In my experience, the Talas has more parts to it. adding to extra stiction.
The float has less and is sooo much better to ride, at all times.

As much as I like the idea of the concept of the fancy forks.
The simple ones are sooo much better.

Hi Ezmo

I have done this exact conversion on a 2008 140mm Talas 32. Works a treat. Mine measures 147mm with the Negative Spring Guide (and spring) sitting inside the Negative Spring Cup which is the correct orientation.
The extra 7mm is not noticeable in the ride, although this is the maximum length you would want to go as any longer will mean the stanchions may not have enough contact area with the casting bushings. Measure up to make sure.

Hope this helps,

Ben

Thanks for that Ben

Glad to know I've got it the right way. From what I've read, most people seem happy with the conversion. I've never really touched the adjustment on the trails and just got used to riding it at 140.

Cheers,

Ezmo
