Hi all,

I recently bought a Giant Trance 29er (2) and a s/h XTR grouppo.

There were a few changes to be made (screw type bb vs press fit, etc).

But where I'm getting stuck big time is that the rear XTR (IS) caliper - even with an adapter - isn't getting anywhere near grabbing the disk?

The caliper needs to get closer to the frame, but all the adapters put the caliper further away?

Do I just need to buy a bigger rotor? Thanks Smiling

Here is a fork adapter picture, if you install it upside down it would make the calliper move further away from the rotor. Hard to know without a picture of your bike.

How did you convert the BB, I thought frames were press fit or threaded and not convertible?

So the obvious question apart from is it upside down, is it a 140mm rotor? Coz the answer to that is yes you need a bigger rotor, but a trance should take a 160mm rotor direct mount (no adaptor)on the rear and 180 with a 20mm mount.

Mounts are a bits of a pain, handy to have 2 or 3 different styles to get a good fit and more than a couple of little washers to get things happening

Oh and if its an old xtr with side mount for the brakes, then you need a side mount adaptor and the minimum is therefore a 180mm rotor IIRC
