Wiggle Australia price match plus 10% off promise
While we encourage everyone to support local bike shops... it's understandable people shop around on-line for deals from time to time.
Right now Wiggle.com.au have a great price promise running: for delivery to Australia, they will not only match, but promise to beat any price inclusive of delivery by 10%.
Note that CRC have up to 50% off Shimano this weekend, and with Wiggle pledging to beat any advertised price... you know what that means!

Larger margins do not neccessarily equate to large profits, but they do equate to higher retail prices.
I don't want to single out dirt works , it's a very widespread practice in Australia to keep imported goods at the same price level they occupied in 2000 when the Aussie dollar bought US 49 cents. The pricing model becomes you are better off selling 8 widgets for $80 margin than 12 widgets for $100 margin . Shimano as an international business has gone one step further - they charge Aussie shops something like $130 or more per xt brake end when it's available overseas for $108 shipped and retail.
The $200 odd RRP in aus makes the $108 seem like a veritable bargain so they sell more brakes to overseas distributors and reap a better margin for people who know no better in aus and or need a bike shop to replace brakes in store.
I'm not here to support inefficient businesses, but when I want a fully fledged bike, I buy local where by some miracle they seem tobe able to compete. And that's where the cost of doing business argument falls in a heap. Look at Giant bikes - cheaper here than in the US, complete warranty coverage- it sure can be done, and I know of at least a Giant bike shop that's doing very well thank you.
Just read the fine print in the wiggles offer today, given I just got their email, and it only applies to an individual product after shipping has been added as if that product was the only one ordered.
What this means is if you wanted a schwalbe tyreat the German online price , wiggle would calculate $40 plus 30euro delivery as their comparator price versus their delivered price.
No big deal you think - on my basket at bike discount with $700 worth of parts, wiggle would assume $170 worth of delivery charges even though I pay $40
So if you want one item only, it's a good deal, but apart from that its a crock and you almost certainly won't be able to get the 10% to apply.
My business selling industrial/scientific equipment is being affected by overseas online sales. I'm not to concerned long term as I can evolve my business and I love change/new challenges, but I do understand that for some business this would be a big game changer and will have a negative aspect to it. I mostly buy bike parts online these days, probably 70% overseas and 30% local at the lbs or online. One thing I don't do(and hate) is to waste the time of my lbs and then go home and buy online.

At first I wasn't sure what your issue was, I now realise that your site does have sponsors from the local bike industry. It was initially a 'global' post as thought a lot of the guys around Aus would appreciate the deal. Like I said before, a friend actually sent this to me, not the store. He was chuffed at the savings he'd made, but as with any offer YMMV. Some here appreciated it. Some didn't. That's life.
FYI, the PMBC president asked that this be removed from their site so as not to alienate other supporters. So it's not so 'global' any more.
On NoBMoB we have local supporters too, but everyone is equal in my eyes, if they provide a great service and price then people will reward these guys with custom. I am constantly reminding local advertisers that they are welcome to post their events in the calendar and deals in our shopping forum, but they seldom do. I hope this is a sign they are getting plenty of business without going to this extra trouble.

I used to buy a lot from a bike store in Manly they had great service and stock of the parts I needed. These days they don't have stock of anything and it usually takes 2-3 weeks to get the parts in. The boss doesn't order straight away, instead he makes one big order. There prices are way way higher than online!
I have had problems when parts have been ordered from large AUS importers. 3-4 things have been ordered and 1 has been out of stock. They don't send the order until its all in stock! They don't even ring the bike shop to tell them what is happening. Service is non existent and it makes the local bike shop look bad!!
Fact is I can order from an online overseas store and have the parts in my hands 4-5 days later!!!
I am all for supporting local bike shops but the entire bike industry needs to realise that they have to lift there game if they want to stay in business. Your business model needs to evolve as things change. At present the AUS bike industry is stuck in the 70s doing nothing!
There are a few exceptions though, since moving to Belrose, Belrose Bikes have been awesome to deal with. They actually stock a lot of the parts I need and the personal service I get from Adrian is second to none!
TBSM are a great example of an Australian bike shop staying with the times. They support our State DH races and have a great online shop selling at very good prices for Australia.
