More Menai Madness :D
So another roll around Menai is in order? Oh yeah!! Menai is one of Sydney's better tracks for water drainage, so I am sure we will enjoy this one. Plus we may have some more experienced hands for finding our way around.
Park in the normal spot on Old Illawarra Road. For the hard heads amongst us, my advice is to avoid a slab of beer the night before.
For anyone who hasn't been on this ride, I would rate this an intermediate ride in terms of skill level. Some parts of the trail are quite technical. For the adventurous amongst us, there are some nice rock drops and roll offs. You could bring your armour if you are keen.
Call me on 0438 885 410 if you strike any problems Sunday morning.
Bring your game on Sunday folks!
Were you there and have a story to tell?

Oohh Menai! I've been wanting to check out this place for ages, especially seeing some of the great snigle and technical riding from past rides in the gallery... I'm going to express my interest in this one but can't fully commit at this stage.
Will get back to you Ditty.
Cheers,
...for now. If the group remains small, I might leave you to it and wait for next week's ride. Cheers, Anke
ill be there too, gonna be bringing the big bike though. the little one is still out of order. Liam; How are big are the hill climbs?
smaller groups are more fun!
If I remember how to ride a bike??
but got hit with some bad cold. Hopefully OK by Sunday. Will ring if not making it.
Lee, the hills are quite small in fact. The ride elevation is very similar to Red Hill. There is some elevation changes, for sure. But I would not class any of this as long hill climbs. Still, you will be driving hard from the rear!
I'm in for this one. I haven't been able to give my new bike a good test on anything technical as it has been too wet. How long do I need to allow to get there from Mona Vale?
Put it into Google Maps, it can get you directions. But my guess is 1.5 hours from Mona Vale. Andy, you're from up there, right?
Best to leave this long to find the right spot with a bit of leeway. Work out your route the night before so you can enjoy the drive. I'd offer you a lift Brain but my 'family style' bike rack has had it.
No worries, see you Sunday. I can't wait as I couldn't make the last Menai ride.
Having seen the comments about the last ride here, must check it out.
very tempting - never been to Menai, but after now 10 weeks off the bike and only one baby ride not sure I am up to it with you lot....
Hopefully i won’t have as much trouble finding the meeting location this time.
...today. Liam, thanks for organising. Cheers, Anke
Today was awesome. I bet there will be a few sore people tomorrow after some of the spills today.
Had a great ride even a nice over the bars at the end (nice means I didnt get hurt). Unfortunately while rinsing the bike down the mud cleared away to reveal the right seat stay had been munched by a rock in the crash oh well time join the crowd and upgrade it to a nice dual suspension frame.
Yeah thanks again Liam for showing us around the place. Some great technical trails.
^^ I presume, Damien, your refering to my nice OTB effort in the last 5mins of the ride? Still unsure how i managed that. I can imagine how it looked to you guys coming around the corner to find me tangled up in my bike leaning upside-down against a tree. Hehe.
Anyway i've got some pics & video (not much) that i will post up soon.
Cheers,
I didnt see your otb I had my own mishap on that last rocky section and then another smaller fall a little further on two crashes all within about 50 meters dented the rear seat stay needs to be fixed or replaced probably replace it with a dual suspension frame.
Great ride all. I exceeded my stack limit (2) by 1 with a final fling over the bars myself. Spent more time on my arse than on my seat. No more than minor damage to bike and body which is always good. Good seeing some new faces, but was still getting over a crappo flu, so I was a bit grumpy I think. Oh well, next time I'll remember to bring my smile and armour.
Okay, the gallery for this ride can be found here:

Gez, i didn't realise there were so many other OTB incidences. Shame to hear about the frame dent-age but at least we are all in one piece ourselves.
Thank you for the acknowledgement. Apologies for all for my choosing to escape the pit before a Kodak could shoot me in it. I’m sure you understand. It was unexpected to be as deep as the cross bar. Perhaps a better name would be Swallowed Gus Pitt.
Funny though!!
id say the funniest experience ive had on a bike!
Yeah, when you splashed down, it was like a golf ball plugging into a water-logged green. Its something you don't see everyday. Are you going to do it again??
Okay i've uploaded a few small vids from the ride on Sunday...all involve the rock some were playing on (getting up and down) while Liam fixed a bike problem. I've uploaded good quality ones onto megaupload for your downloading pleasure (they aren't very big) or you can watch the terrible looking youtube versions.
The three vids can be found at the start of the gallery (HERE).
Next time i will try and remember to get more video.
Cheers.
