Manly Dam - Main Circuit
Time:
00:57:07 ok its slow. I did it on a 15 year old bike and I'm a recently quit, pack a day smoker.
I started from wakehurst parkway. Got some serious air on the way down to the creek, unfortunately i landed on my knee and shoulder!
Track was pretty wet and i think i may have sand in every place it shouldn't be

I'm glad you're well enough to write this up.
As you may have seen by the grumpy comment appended on your trail status update, we prefer not to ride in the wet here. The soils are coarse and erode much more easily than the UK and it's generally frowned upon to ride singletrack when the trail is wet.
While Council may have dropped the ball and declared it open when they shouldn't, we can exercise restraint and not ride. The trail fairies (and I am one) appreciate it when people respect the trail and avoid doing damage by riding in the wet. Then we can get on with improvements instead of constantly chasing avoidable maintenance.
As you've found there is a lot of timber abound the track, and it goes like ice when wet! I prefer to stay upright myself.
If you simply must ride (and I get like that myself sometimes) the fire roads at Cascades and Terrey Hills are good options. Duck Holes and Centre Tracks probably drain the best.
I'll be posting a social ride at Terrey Hills in a few weeks and you're more than welcome to tag along. Hope to see you soon!
I did think about it not being good for the track and I wouldn't have done it if i knew it was frowned upon. Today is like the only chance I have had to do anything for myself. I'm sorry for doing it I'll venture to duck holes terrey hills next time. I just had to do a ride today and I'm just not familiar with terrey hills trails etc. that's only my second time around the dam too.
Apologies
Now I can do 2 laps in that time.
Enjoy getting fit and most of all, enjoy cycling and all the benefits it offers.
Well done on quitting Mate!
... you'll just have to make up for it by joining us on our next social ride
Don't stress it too much, Flying Scot. As you said there were others out there riding the dam. Having an internet connection is not a pre-requisite for going for a ride. Nor is checking in here.
Given councils' normal proclivity for signs about absolutely bloody everything you can not do it's almost surprising there are no signs re. riding in the wet...
Give Perimeter and Long trails up at Terrey Hills a go in this weather. Google map: Durumbil Rd,Duffys Forest NSW 2084. You can park there or in Euchunga. There's a gate on the left up Durumbil (by the big rocks), go through the gate and follow your nose down hill (Keep the golf course fence on your left) to the fire trail. Down the concrete dip and you're away. Turn right at the big, level T junction after a few K's and ride to the lookout at the end. Almost unpossible to get lost.
Enjoy!
Thanks gazza. I know 57 is slow, i have more motivation than ever now to get fit and healthy..... And to beat your hot lap!
See you on the trail sometime?
Well done on quitting the smokes too.
Will be on the next social ride as long as it's on a Sunday as that's my usual only day off. I will give terrey hills/ duffys a go too but only in a group as my navigation skills are not the best and I really want to put a face to your names on here.
maybe I'll come help the trail fairys to redeem myself
Feeling pretty guilty about the rain run yesterday
