Unmarked Terrey Hills Tracks
Hi everyone, just thought I'd mention some Terrey Hills tracks that arent on any of the maps on the site.
The Nerang trail is an abandoned fire trail which leads off from the perimeter trail. It's not visible from the main trail but opens up quickly. It's off to the right at the first corner of the perimeter trail (Nerang end), just a gap in the trees but easy to spot when you're looking for it. Only short, maybe a bit over a kilometer but interesting if you've never been down. At the end is a track mainly used by bushwalkers but makes a fun and difficult technical section leading all the way to the water (and a substantial push out). Doesn't form a loop, also not advisable after heavy rain.
The duffy's wharf track is a fun trail off the duffy's track, about 150 metres down on the right, has an old broken down sign. Again it goes all the way to the water and doesn't form a loop but some challenging terrain on the way down. It's basically an old abandoned trail with lots of growth and erosion, but very fun.
Anyway, might add something new to the fairly bland tracks around the area.
Cheers,
Tom

It's not that we don't know about these, but...
They are both marked as walking trails on the topo map, use of which is contentious at the best of times. Would go out on a limb if they were outstanding tracks, but you're not really selling 'em!
We have been past Duffys Wharf trail a couple of times. Once we had a look down there to the right, by that rickety sign you mention, only to find it pretty much impassible. Forget that then, unless it's been cleaned out. But even then, unless you can ride out and back it probably isn't worth the push, huh?
Probably same goes for Nerang Trail - it often looks waterlogged these days. Now Google have hi-res of this area you can see it does open up into wider trail, and you can see some double track. It appears to finish at a rocky lookout, and that is where the official trail ends on the topo. So you're saying one can descend all the way to the water from those rocks?
Hmmmm... OK, maybe Nerang might be worth a small investigation when it dries out.
Nerang is a good track, really fun, just a bit muddy though
We did Smiths the other day and loved every minute of it, the downhill is a hilarious roller-coaster and the ride back is well worth the training. To top it all the crabs at the bottom are really funny with their tiny bodies and bravado.
Not sure if Smiths is on the map, or if you are allowed down there but I just couldn't help mentioning it.
to the best of my knowledge smiths is a legal trail i have seen RFS 4wd on it. That ride back out though is an absolute killer!
Yeah it's an authorised horse trail so we can ride down it too, it certainly beats the hell out of the water bar jumping on the long trail! It's great exploring on foot when the tides low.
