Night Riding - decent trails

Troops - just looking for general info on night riding and decent trails.

I was thinking of trying Muppets/sniggle etc. Is there any etiquette in this part of the world or just go for your life??

(keeping noise down being the obvious rule of thumb)

Great Fun

1. Strong light with battery that will last the ride
2. Light on helmet and on bars if you can
3. Stay upright!

See you out there!!!

4. Send someone else in first to clear the spiderwebs Smiling

Thoughts:

- Get a second bike helmet, or use an old one. It saves time when you take the light on and off your one and only helmet.

- Night riding is completely different to day riding. Even trails you have ridden hundreds of times before. Everything looks harder, and somehow more intense and faster, when you ride at night.

- Manly Dam is great at night. If you get keen, extend out into Bantry too.

- +1 for the spider webs. Especially over summer. They are everywhere. You are always copping a damned spider right in the face!

This works with brits, but Kiwis are best.

1: Find a Kiwi mountain biker and get friendly with them
2: Invite them on a night ride. Offer lights if you need to.
3: Make them go first.
4: Stay within sight of them to ensure maximum entertainment value

I'm one of those kiwis sent for entertainment although got my own back on a pommie mate.

He has hurting and panting hard and managed to swallow an Orb. Now I'm laughing again and this was 6 years ago!

Hey Team,

Just waiting on my lights to show up....in transit now.

So, is the consensus Manly Dam at night? Or are there other good trails around for some night time riding?

Any regular rides going on at Manly?

Anyone wanna take a newbie for a few midweek night rides somewhere?

Cheers,
Mike.

PS. I'm a Kiwi Smiling

... on a Wednesday.

Hans usually organises to coincide with the full moon. Some of us harbour suspicions he is a Grimm. Eye-wink

Although he has been quiet of late.

Perimeter and Long are a good low risk intro to night riding, although I still managed to find the only rock in the puddle last time, stall, and land on the end of my handlebars. Can't take me anywhere Sad

Terry hills trails are crowd pleasers. No matter what time of day or night I have always managed to see someone else out on Perim and Long. Thursday nights and its peak hour after dark.

Watch for roos/wallaby's - especially, first few kays of Perim behind houses and start of Duck Holes near the Firestation. There are a few that reside there and guys have been taken out (back of ambo) or had a close shave like myself.

Other tips

Manly Dam you should be quiet to avoid upsetting the neighbours
Tell someone where you are going, parking etc and how long it should take esp if you fly solo
Get the right lights and you can do day speeds
