Hi guys heard there were some longer gravity runs on mt. canobolas. I'm based in dubbo but will be in Orange Sat the 22/02. I have rode Kinross a lot but never canobolas. I have a gravity enduro event comming up and I am keen to get some training in. I would appreciate any advice to steer me in the right direction or i can even provide a vehicle to shuttle if needed. Cheers

There are many serious trails from the summit on the North face of the mountain, through natural bush, down through the pine forest, mainly on the eastern side of Mitchell's Way. For long fast and challenging runs, there are enough trails to link together to drop from the summit at 1395m ASL down to around 800m over several Km. The most developed trails including some road gaps, north shore and rock gardens for more serious downhill as well as plenty of good XC single track can be found by driving into the forest up Mitchels Way from Cargo Rd. A couple of Km from Cargo Rd there is a sort of carpark on the left before Mitchells Way really climbs up the mountain. Lot of good trails can be accessed a couple of hundred meters on any of the side roads on your left. Good runs can be had from Airstrip Rd back to the carpark.
Stuff from top is in NP and shouldn't be mentioned....
Some nice stuff in the pines, but more tolerated than approved and should also be careful about publising.
Point taken, but http://nswmtb.asn.au/node/35891
The link talks about management trails, ie fire trails. Doesn't really advertise single track though.
it wasn't that long ago that forests pulled down a bunch of wooden features on the pinies trail.
I dont recommend building structures or damaging plantations in any way as this is not legal without express permission. I have been riding trails on Canobolas and surrounds for more than 25 years on both MTB and Moto, as have countless other locals. I dont buy into a "locals only" mentality and I am not apologetic for letting people know there are other places than Kinross to ride, what they do with that info is up to them to decide.
For a region that is trying to become a MTB Mecca, it seems a shame to let one of the best locations in the area for recreational off road cycling be written off.
So if there are issues with the legalities of riding existing tracks and trails that concern you, perhaps it is time the MTB community worked to ensure the area can be accessed without the risk of prosecution. Both State Forests and National Parks have provisions for such approvals as you are probably aware.
deleted post. Not relevant here. taken to PM
I think Gravity Enduro is just marketing code for riding nice and slow up big hills and riding them quickly down again
There are plenty of big hills around Canobolas. Here's a description of one such nice, fairly large, loop.
I hope to run another 'mini Gravity Enduro' club race at Kinross later this year. The tracks we used last time worked well.
Thanks everyone for their comments. Grant I was waiting for your mini gravity enduro to eventuate after Christmas. If thereis the possibility of it happening I amongst others are definitely keen. I took part in the recent Ginja ninja and was really impressed how it was run and that they actually continued under the conditions. It made it a real test of fitness bike skill and the will to continue. I even saw Grant out there on my 7th lap struggling with momentum as I passed him on ttt only to have him fly by me just before bogans run. Great event. Still heading out to canobolas Sat arv if anyone is keen.
