Kiwarrak to be bulldozed?
I heard some very disturbing news during the week... Kiwarrak is scheduled to be logged by Forestry in 2015.
Apparently they will "do what they can" to retain as much of the trail network as possible, but of course the awesomeness we know and love opposite the tip will never be the same.
Sounds like we need to organise a weekend away real soon.

I was told it was only a small part, not sure which part though.
The forestry people would have more trees if they just picked up the ones that came down in the big storm 2 weeks ago. Not quite as bad as terrey hills, but plenty of trees down.
I SO hope that's not true...
If the Forestry Corporation harvest plans are anything to go by (see their website), there are three different areas within Kiwarrak State Forest which are authorised to be logged. Of these, it appears that only one area impacts on the trail network opposite the tip on bucketts way. A couple of trails have already been closed, including Eureka, to allow logging along the eastern edge (of that section) of KSF. Logging there started a couple of weeks ago; see recent media release: http://www.forestrycorporation.com.au/media/rele...
I suppose the Forestry Corporation could be putting together more harvesting plans for other parts of KSF and maybe that's what you have heard about.

... is one option. There are also some nice and relatively inexpensive cabins at the van parks at Hallidays Point.
And if you get real desperate and have tents etc I have a stealth option but you need to promise me you'll not leave any mess and be cosiderate of the neighbours.
http://www.mansfieldonthemanning.com/mansfield_g... Mansfield is a place we stayed at twice. It has two cabins maybe 800 metres from one of the entrances, you can join the Chocolate Foot and many other trails there, its a great place and one of my favourite trails. Real reasonable prices, actually I thought they were cheap, especially if you get 5 people, check out the site. I think the owners were selling, so may be new owners there now. We were there in January and the local we were riding with, he is also one of the trail builders up there, told us there will be some logging going on there. Hopefully, the trails will be left alone.
ANy more options out there!
Cheers
