The best endurance race training ride ever?
Meet at main (East) Ferry near shop.
Update: Due to technical difficulties, the silly training ride will now take place Sunday 20th. This leaves Sunday 13th open for all to join the GNR Group 'C' ride.
Start at Wiseman's Ferry and ride to Webbs Creek Ferry which leads us to Womarah Range (72km mark hill in Dirt Works)this section is around 20km of medium climbs and some ripper downhills ,coming out onto the road and a short ride to the bottom of Shepherds Gully a great technical climb which lead us to the bottom of Western Commission Track with 48km's in the legs this is one of the best climbs you could hope for 10km's of a mix of grinding steep hills and big ring fast climbs that max your heart rate and keep it there. This leads to GNR where we turn right towards Clair's Bridge where we turn round and its GNR fun back to the Ferry.
This will be a hard race pace ride with minimal stops but you will be rewarded with heaps of Adrenalin and Endorphins to keep you going.
Happy for an A and B group So people seeking a more relaxing ride can still enjoy the fun.

linco | Great ride | Wow what a ride. I'm just glad we made it back before dark. Thanks to everyone that came along, that was definitely the toughest day of mountain biking I've ever had . I'm not sure what felt more punished at the end of the ride - my bike after... |

Well the weather gods were on our side it rained nearly the whole way out to Wiseman's then stopped on the drive down the hill, with barely a few sprinkles all day the Sky's opened again as we drove off, very lucky indeed.
The tracks out there are very wet but better than I had imagined, the biggest problem which I hope they fix before DW is all the fallen trees on the GNR it seemed like we only rode for 5min then had to get of to walk around/over fallen trees over & over again.
Thanks to everyone who showed up, it was a great ride in some tuff conditions.
See you all next time.
Wow... 'cos it was clear of trees along the GNR section last week.
By the time we reach there don't think getting off to walk every 5 minutes would be a bad thing... will save your legs for Womerah!
Max Adventure (and a number of volunteers) spent a 'few hours' clearing the tracks before hand so I'm sure they will be busy next week.
...it was indeed. I'm feeling quite reasonable today after the marathon with a good 20-30% loading factor for the wet track and sticky mud. Was quite glad to ride through some of the big puddles to clean the muck out of the chain relieving the dreaded chain suck.
With the elapsed time for me of around 8h10m then subtracting the 40mins(?) at St Albans pub giving the time of 7.5 hours, this is pretty close to my best time for 100Km. The Fling is a little more than 100Km but with the conditions yesterday, this is really quite satisfying. Happy with that.
Thanks to Steve for organising and showing the way. The 9 MTBers in road train was something to see!
Thanks all for an enjoyable ride.
Craig
The ride was long and the section of the Great Northern Road that we didn't ride last week was really slow going. Thanks for everyone who came along and sorry we had to hurry back.
I uploaded the ride-

Over 2000m of climbing and just under 8 hours including all of the stops.
Bring on the race,
Nigel
Ahhhhhh... interesting choice. Don't forget how much more that technical section is going to take out of you compared to the cruise home on WCT.
FWIW, I reckon the best race tactic will be to ride very conservatively from Ten Mile Hollow to Shepherds Gully, saving your energy to use along Womerah. I mean, relatively you'll go a lot faster along Womerah than you could do in the tech. stuff for the same amount of energy put in.
Thanks Steve for arranging agreat ride. Havent had such a tuff yet enjoyable ride in awhile, thankfully the rain held off till the end. was good training as intend for the dirtworks. just wish it would stop raining for afew days. see you all at the Dirtworks, or on the next monster ride

If your not out there doing it,
Someone else is
I plan to ride tommorrow on one of the circuits you guys did. However what do I need to know about water supply ? I remember seeing a picture of a tank somewhere, where is it
Cheers,
Tom
Outside the Buddhist temple, just West of 10 Mile Hollow:
(this picture is geocoded, click above, then the 'KML' link underneith).
Although I've never seen it empty there might always be a first time, you should still take plenty. You can always fill up at St Albans pub too.
thanks for that. I also spotted another one on the map the "28Km Water Station" but only if I get that far
btw would you recommend going up the western commisionn or the GNR ?
No, no... those water stations were there on race day only, won't be there now!
The Buddhist water is the only supply on the course during normal times.
Are you sure you don't want to wait for a guide? It would not be good to get lost there. And riding GNR alone, especially the longer routes is not recommended.
Yeah you're right seems a bit long to do 80+km alone...unless...anyone up to come tomorrow ?? This is Angry Doctor training
