Fox CTD issues

Had a recurring issue with my Fox CTD forks on my 2014 Trance 2 and was interested to know if anyone has experienced the same problems.

From what I gather and I'm pretty sure this was the case when the bike was new but the CTD position should sit at about 5, 3 and 1 o'clock respectively for the climb trail and descend position (as you look down on the fork from the seating position).

What I have noticed is that the switch positions have rotated 90 degrees (counter clockwise) so that the positions then become 2, 12 and 10 o'clock. If it loosens any further the climb position will foul on the curved section of the fork directly below the stem.

What is obvious is that the aluminium bolt thing which the switch sits in is working it's way loose (not the actual switch as that is held by the smaller Allen key bolt in the centre (

First time I noticed was when I had the bike Laying flat in the ute and all the fork oil had drained out. Kudos to the LBS and Fox and they had this fixed under warranty in a 4 day turn around a week before Christmas.

This issue has occurred again, albeit no oil has drained out yet.

Yes I can tighten the nut but but I can not get it back to the original 5, 3, 1 o'clock position. Is this normal and should this be something I need to constantly monitor....or should the nut simply not work loose and the CTD positions stay at 5, 3 and 1 o'clock.

Pending for your thoughts folks and if this is a recurring problem for others before I head back Fox.

Thanks

Fox had a lot of warranty problems with some of their cartridges a while back...not sure if this affects your model though?
Mine was "Float 32" which was very quickly replaced under warranty

2013 Trance 1 with CTD has same issue for me on the fork although it hasn't quite gone 90 degrees yet to where it's a problem. Something to look forward too I guess Sad. No issues with fluid loss.

Rear shock is now stuck in Descend mode and turning the lever doesn't change it. Apparently its an expensive repair and needs to go back to Fox for a few weeks to fix. Not something the LBS can deal with. I rarely use it in anything else other than descend mode anyway so its not a big deal as the shock still works fine.

But not a real big fan of the system based on my experience of it.

I took my 2013 CTD fork to a shop for a general service (not the shop I bought from) and the cartridge was replaced under warranty. I didn't even know there was anything wrong with it and it feels no different now to before. Haven't had any issues with the switch rotating though.

the CTD is as you described, the whole thing has shifted counter clockwise.Hasnt affected the way it works though so i havent bothered doing anything about it,maybe i should before it becomes an issue.

Thanks for the feedback folks.

My specific model is the "Fox 32 Float 27.5 RL Evo CTD", assume the same as your's Spindog.

Havent had any problems with the rear shock (yet).

Anyway, back to fox with this one again. Will be pushing for a replacement.

Thanks for your input.

I have exactly the same situation with mine.

2015 LaPierre Zesty AM 327

Had it serviced by a Fox approved dealer and the guy says he found it loose and tightened it but within a few hours of use it loosened again and the CTD switch rotated again.

I tightened the cartridge and removed the CTD switch and repositioned but sure enough within an hour of trail use the cartridge loosened again.

Going to bring it into the shop I brought it from because it's not a great situation on a fork that's only 5 months old and serviced within Fox's recommendations. If it's a warranty issue it needs to be sorted out.

...but there has been no discernible difference in fork performance and the LBS (Ride in Workshop Balgowlah) advised that unless fork stops working, then not to worry.

Having said that, I would be very interested to hear what Fox might do or say about it...

After bringing my bike into the shop that I brought it from I was told that the fork was going straight to Fox.

A week later I collected my bike but the service manager said that the fork was never sent back to Fox and they had basically serviced the fork and retightened all bolts to factory spec.

I said that I already had the fork serviced a week ago and that all of this was done and the issue was still there so I wasn't accepting the bike back. (all of this was really civilized and not aggro at all just me putting my point across) So they kept the bike and sent the fork to Fox who validated the claim and said that due to a parts shortage they were just going to replace the fork under warranty with a 2016 Fox 34 with the new FIT4 damper so no more CTD. Hoping that this one doesn't have any more issues.
