Re: This ride meeting:
Dirtworks Classic 2008

That was my first Dirtworks and I had an absolute blast, starting with the now famous church and it's congregation, (top work Christine). My prep for the race was unconventional with 7 carbo loaded beers and then about litre of water before bed which meant I was up half the night going to the loo, 4am there was voices around the fire, so I got up for an early bowl of Weetbix, so there wasn't much sleeping going on for me. Alex and I had a plan to ride together to the 50km mark at just over 18kph and 2h 45m at which point he was to be unleashed to ride at his own pace, but at 25km I got a flat, so Alex was on his own from there, It didn't seem to hurt him, as he did 5h 13m (6th place in open mens) in his first 100km race. I'm predicting he'll do a sub 5 hour race next year. I got back on my bike asap after my flat and despite putting in a good effort knew I wouldn't see Alex till the finish . The results have me doing 5h 27m for the race (11th in Masters) and I started in the 2nd group my bike computer tells me 101.72km and 5h 09m riding time with an average speed of 19.6km, I don't think the flat took around 18mins to fix and I only stopped for 30secs at the last water stop to fill a bottle. I'm happy with my time and I might have a crack at a sub 5 hour race myself next year. Thanks for the great company, it made the weekend. Smiling
John.

So let's get this straight John... you cycled straight past the 28Km and 50Km stops? And just filled a bottle at 72Km? That's close enough to non-stop for me.

Keeping it going is the thing to do for sure, and that's taking it to the extreme. Makes me feel bad for wondering around feeling sorry for myself for 5 minutes too long at the 72Km stop!

Then again, to a 24 hour speedster like yourself this course was a simple walk in the park no doubt?

Top work!

I now have a new plan of not stopping even once for 100k races unless it's hot. I did stop for the flat, but never needed to stop for anything else. I'm currently looking for a pit crew that could do 10 sec bike swaps for 24hours about 1.5 hours apart.
I really don't think stopping helps at all.
John.
