100km here i come
hopefully wont have the flew as in the fling
Don
done deal, entered paid just need to train.. well maybe after Christmas
"Train", what is this train you speak of.
not a term i am familar with!
Think I'll do the 50km. Didn't do so great in the Fling so will train for a better result for this one!
The Dirtworks will be ideal warm up for Alice Springs a few weeks later... think that's Steve means by training.
I need, too, as I did not so well at the fling!!!!
and I hope I can, could, maybe, maybe not... Alice Springs!!!! ohhhh ohhhh
Bernd
Had a great race last year cant wait to do it again.
i think it sold out this year. (took a while though), so if you want to go, enter soon to avoid missing out
Well I've entered. 50km soft option again for me!
Really enjoyed the half fling so decided to keep to the same distance for this one.
a couple of us were talking about doing this one on the big bikes or in my case, the only bike (the 50k), im in..gilbo, nate?
Just what the doctor ordered, now I have something to focus on.
I'm in for the 50k, let the training begin.
Paul
There's no train to St Albans, you might be able to catch a boat.
Entered for the 50. Like life, I am in it for a fun time, not a long time!
So, when is the practice ride at GNR??
After hearing you all rave on about your efforts at Stromlo and Majura this year i have jumped in the deep end...
and entered for 100kms of pain - and by then it should be on a new bike!
Thanks guys!
Cheers,
Lance
spent, I'm in and do the 50....under ? / ??!!!
I let you know in April...
Bernd
are we talking about next year May????!!!
That is 5 months away!!!
Crazy!
im keen to try it on the big bike, (thankfully, we have 5 months to prepare)..what about dez, bruce and steve?
As i will be doing the 100km there is little chance of me taking the big bike, sorry guys.
I just entered the 50km. After the Fling I just want to complete the 50 and do it well.
Seriously 100km you are guys are mad......mabe next year.
1ookm on a big bike No Chance
Say's Steve '5:36' Knight!
I say we make Steve do it on his VP for being such a show off last year. In fact, come on Steve - you'll be thanking us come the run into and down Shepherds Gully!
I'll ride the big bike if someone caddies for me .VPfree down Mojo up sounds like a plan
....bragging. Both your Big & Light bikes weigh less than my "Normal" bike Grrrrr
"Mojo up" steve 01?
well looks like u and me gilbo lol what about u nate? u know you want to haha regardless of your fine choice of far more suitable vehicles!
Now I've discovered what's wrong with me am hopeful of getting back into the long rides and being able to work out what to eat. Well - that's the theory... so in for the 100!
Really, really want to treat this like warm up for Alice Springs... wonder how long their entries will stay open for?
I'm in but not quite sure what I've committed to (racing is a first for me). Maybe see you guys on the trails some day. Anyone looking for a training partner just let me know (I do Manly Dam in about 37 mins).
Nice one Mick... Dirtworks isn't such a race as survival course though!
Check the Manly Dam Challenge and look out for long-ish rides with people around that time.
See you out there for sure!
but I do intend too! -I don't think I'll be choosing the DH bike though Alex, can do without that extra pain!
aww.. hehe ive still gotta sign up too, i think ill head up the single chainring devision 50k ers then , hope i survive, better get training!
Thanks Rob, will keep an eye out for the longish rides you referred to. In the meantime, will work at reducing my Manly Dam time (Nico sub 30 mins - I assume that is the Bike Addiction Nico - freak). As you mentioned, survival is my goal re Dirtworks so would appreciate any tips you may have. Will catch up on the trails some time soon. Cheers.
doing the 100km? Jeez I heard the 50km was really bor-ring.
Anyways, one masters and one super masters in the 100 - although it is frightfully close considering yet to have first ride post cast removal.
for the 100km and will probably camp the night before, should we start a list of who's doing what distance and who's camping or turning up on the day?
John.
"Believe it or not, non-cyclists sometimes think they have something interesting to say!"
Yup, I'm in for the 100KM
Not done a race before, or a ride this long I don't think but started training now and always have the option of downgrading to the 50 at the last minute if I bottle it. Going to look for a cabin to rent before hand, not sure my late 30's bod can handle the tent sleep before something as unknown as this.

This comment has been moved here.
100km entries sold out only 50km entries left until 1200 cap is reached - cant wait training is now in full swing - go the singlespeed.
Missed out on doing the 100 all sold out, oh well 50kms it is
Ev
I have entered in the 50km.
Unfortunately I also missed the 100, so 50 it is.
LOL... only able to do 50 eh, Ev?
Yeah, yeah... you sound heartbroken...
Yeah what a bugger, you can imagine my disappointment.
Mind you I did want to do it that way have done all the 100s, well entered all .
i got myself together and entered the 50!!
don't all fall off your chairs
woo hoo should be SUCH FUN!!
For some reason I didn't enter the 100km in time, even though I thought I entered the day the entries were released...
Oh well, fast and furious fifty then?
Roid girl is gonna be a force to be reckoned with!
i will be SO fast that Junkie won't even see me...just a blur of baby blue!
NOT!
Hi guys
For those that have done the Dirtworks 100 before, I wonder if you could help me get an idea on the up hill sections. I hear they are pretty mental, are they as hard as the Andersen's uphill or more like the cascades/quarry climb?
Just looking for an idea really.
Cheers
The Quarry climb at Cascades is a walk in the park in comparison... I rode up pretty much all (bar a few metres) of Andos yet had to walk a good 100m (probably more) of the first DW hill, 'nuff said?
Edit... this should answer a couple of questions. Green is first DW climb. Blue is Andos. You don't want to know about Red!
Oh, 50Km contenders need not feel left out, they have to go up the first silly climb. That said, it's pretty nice going once you're up there.
Those 'pinches' on the Womerah range are a killer too, esp with 80Km in your legs. FWIW, I still really want to go do a Womerah training ride where you could judge for yourself.
There are only two hills to really worry about and a lot of people walk them anyway. If you do some regular training over the next 8 weeks you will be fine if not you will suffer.
What would the Womerah ride be made up of. eg How far, elevatation etc.
Cheers
I would be up for some of that Womerah training action, just to get an idea. Might try to get a ride in over there.
I thought Ando's uphill was pretty hard, but I rode the first 60% of it then realised it just wasn't stopping so decided to save my energy for The Oaks (too late!).
