Fairwell CP... You'll be missed
What a great event... My second only CP only wish I'd done more
I'll keep my race debrief short...
Pre-training = Going in to the event I'd covered a huge 302km so far this year
Objective = Stay alive
Expectation = Struggle to stay alive
Outcome = Awesome... knocked 14mins off last years time and significantly improved overall and category placings
With my lack of training (extremely frequent theme for me now boarding an excuse) I had already accepted that I would not match last years time and to just hang back. How wrong was I! I Started back in wave 3 and settled in to a group that had the legs on me on the climbs and most of the flats. Managed to hang on until the descents where I kept pulling away from the group only to be caught every time. After playing cat and mouse a number of times I finally hit the gas just as we were about to enter Mt. Stromlo. Kept my foot on the gas until the top of the climb and somehow managed to keep the group behind me giving me a sweet clear run down to the feed station,
Stopped for a drink but ended up breaking the Endura drum with water gushing everywhere. In my defence it was already broken but the lady didn't tell me. Felt pretty bad about it as I watched the pack come back through. Time to chase again and make up for lost time. Managed to hold my own though the long fire trail section was starting to take its toll. Got a second wind at 40km then turned myself inside out at the 45km mark to avoid getting caught.
Loved the event, wish it was on again next year... Will have to find another event to satisfy my hunger for more

Just goes to show, it's not just about the training, it's also about the desire to do well (and beat Thommo!)
Well done
Beating Thomo being the primary objective
