Cascades Details:
Carrying on from last Wednesday... From Wyatt Ave, aiming to go down Heath Track (missing the now blocked little bit of single track) all the way to the bottom, through the creek and up Quarry climb, round the top or ridge top track, along the road (hope that's OK at night) to the start of Cascades track, down there with the great water bars and then up the other side to the start. Would be nice to keep a fairly decent pace, but not after setting an records.

by 7.30am? I assume you mean 19.30 (7.30pm)
is wednesday night!
Stuart: you are absolutely correct, have changed the post- thanks
Christine: yeah I have heard this state of origin thing bantered about.. can't be more important that cycling can it?
So how hard are the climbs. This will be the 29ers first ride the stock gear ratio 32/18 will be a little high and the engine is a little out of tune but I have to get back into riding SS sooner or later ready to suffer.
Cascades is your typical 'hills are your friends' ride. The way out to Davidson has three pinches I use granny for, but they are short enough you can sprint up them if you like, and have sealed stuff for grip. The Quarry climb is rough and has steady gradient of ouchiness. It too needs granny and can only be sprinted if you can sprint for 5 minutes or so!
The others (Heath Track and Cascades Track to St Ives) are easy enough with middle. Try it - you'll like it!
Hi Damien
Just as Rob said really. You shouldn't need to get off on anything, but Quarry climb is a bit like heart break hill (MD) times 4 with a lot more rocks and steeper and nastier (so nothing like it really). When you finally get to the top you will feel great though. If you have done andos or similar it's really nothing. The concrete pinches Rob mentioned are great, you can really hammer them if you have any energy left.
I've not done this ride in the dark but in the day you can have a real laugh on the water bars especially on the way down cascades. I'm figuring it may take more than 1.5 hours, but then again I've not done it in the dark. Oh, and I usually get lost at the St. Ives road section in the houses, but I will have my GPS just in case.
Dylan
a maybe. if im not there dont wait.
Pleasure riding with you guys tonight, friendly group and a nice pace. I reckon we did about 19kays in 1.5 hours. Cascades really is a cracking training track day or night.
Oh and that 29er sure is a looker
Cheers
Great ride last night guys new bike was a real eye opener 29er's (believe the hype) are a load of fun more grip, better handling with a much smother and faster ride. And Cascades was a blast as well, the hills are worth it for the pay off in waterbars.
Thanks for organising that one Dylan and to think I almost didn’t go because the front suspension hasnt arrived yet I certainly didnt need it with those big 29er wheels.
This mystical 29er I don't even know what brand it is, do we have a link to see its beauty?
John.
Its from heaven I have found my ultimate single speed climbs like a mountain goat decends like a demon and I was tacking it easy what with a new bike and previously unseen trail at night. A few changes are in order like front suspension, shorter stem, flater handlebars and seat back seat post all just to tweak the fitment a little.

Its a sweet bike.
One question though, why is it called a 2-9 when it is an ss
Its a reference to the 29er wheels 2-9.
