80% bone healing then its all down hill from there , im at eight weeks one day
aprox three months full strength
then its rehab stretching sweet pain oohhhh got some coming today cant wait!
going for my first gentle ride at Manly Dam on Thursday for a soft start
wish me luck.
Did you do it at the RH DH jump track ?
Cause thats funny thats where I did mine too dislocated shoulder fractured humorous in two places and separated AC.
yeah i think thats what its called im only a newbie up there it was my 2nd time up that track and the first attempt at that part oh well ill have to wait a while to build up to it again.wish i was doing manly dam with you but im trying not to move, at least for the first few weeks ive been told thats the most important time in the healing process when your lying still its no pain then you forget, watch a few mtb vids move just a little with excitement then the harsh reality of a busted bone sets back in,hows the feeling of the ends moving yuk.good luck up the dam take it easy im slowly turning into a computer freak, its seems to be attached to my lap all day, have a good one hope the weather holds up for you
I feel for you, I broke mine at Oxford Falls once on a stupid little fall.
Not sure how bad yours is, but from my experience it's not all that bad. 6 weeks off the bike, that's what the doc said and he was right. No physio or anything needed, 6 weeks later I did the first Dirt Works back in '05...
Anyhow, that was it for me, so it could be worse. Good luck healing!
,not sure how you could tell how bad it is its already feeling like a union is about to happen the bones can be felt to be over lapping each other and it doesnt tent as much as it did on sat just got to keep my mind positive (cabin fever is driving me nuts) was thinking of getting a trainer to put my bike on in a few weeks (3???)and start working on getting my cardio back up to scratch any one know of a good model to use also cheap as with no income protection and no work(self employed)for 6 weeks im pretty broke.
Ouch. Spiral fractures all through my collarbone was the most painful injury ever, and I've had a few to choose from. I'm a bit of a wuss though.
Icing for the first two weeks and neurofen (not panadol) for pain and swelling as long as you need.
Keep your arm as still and supported as you can for a couple of weeks.
My physio gave me some rehab cream to rub in (when i could touch it), but something like emu oil would be as good. Not deep heat etc. I found that massaging helped get the blood moving around the area and helped healing, and also because my neck totally seized up due to it taking the weight of my arm (I tore my bicep as well)
Judging by the pic on your details you have some good drugs to see you through the worst bits.
Once the physical pain dies down, then the real pain of being out of action starts.
I went into denial and refused to look at anything to do with mountain biking. I did jigsaw puzzles while my wife kept me drugged up so my mood was at a tolerable level. We all have our ways of coping.
After about 4 weeks I was OK to get on the wind trainer - you're welcome to borrow it if you can make your way to Mona Vale. It's nothing flash - just get it back to me sometime.
Good luck. Recovery is only as long as watching grass grow. Only joking - stay positive.
thanks andy ill take you up on that offer in a few weeks if thats still ok with you ,im in collaroy plateau so were not to GI the factory where i am supposed to be working in right now is in wilmette place just off darley st ,so i can meet up with you then,my wife will be more than happy to get me doing something other than moan about not being able to do stuff.i tried last night to go without the drugs but had to bite the bullet at about 1am and hit the codine ,hard to sleep when if you move your in pain, ive been massaging arnica oil on the area and icing so fingers crossed,
I was advised not to use any anti-inflamatories and pain killers if possible as they retard the absorption of calcium .
If the pain is bearable hold of as much as possible and eventually you get used to it .
Codeine also has the other undesirable effect , you don't want to be pushing to hard if you know what I mean .
I stopped taking them after 24-hours and then started taking supplements to augment the laying down of calcium.
ZINK- SILICA -VITAMIN C (Melrose calcium ascorbate powder is cheap $10.00 a pack its a powder so easy to mix into juice) Vitamin D also helps but its just as effective to sit in the sun for 15-20 minutes a day reading a book.
Try to avoid caffeine and alcohol as these also retard calcium absorption and eat heaps of sardines and other calcium rich foods like milk, sesame seeds.
This really helped for me as my bones formed a matrix very early and where knitted in six weeks.
Good luck and get some books , better than TV.
Geez, I never heard that.
No wonder it took so long. As I said, I'm a wuss.
caffeine and alcohol - add another week there.
As for codeine, I ate a truck load of the stuff. But I'd have to eat concrete to disrupt my regularity.
PS. No worries Leon re the trainer. My numbers in my profile. Just give me a call when you need it. I'm almost opposite Darley road.
was a bit of a problem for me , hard to say no to a good Shiraz on a cold night.
Civilised gents or ladies never say no to a good Shiraz on a cold night.
no problems with the caffeine and booze ill try again tonight and go cold turkey, will ask tash real nice to get me some silica etc from the square this arvo.
dez b i was sending out good vibes for your 1st ride hope it went well ,i just got back from hospital check up have to start stretching the bones appart as there is a overlap of about 25mm at the moment .
motorbike accident and the driver (rider, whatever) did a simliar injury to yours on his AC joint - off to the hospital for treatment etc. he is very stubborn and refused to wear a sling or anything and although he works again now as a tradie he has a dent in his shoulder - he sometimes likes to pop it out for shock value!! - moral to the story, do the physio and wear a sling i guess!!
hope you heal well and why on earth would you stop drinking? this must be the time TO drink!
MEE
i will definately keep wearing mine or keeping it immobilized i dont mind the dent as long as it doesnt effect surfing mtb etc as for the drink i started very early with my drinking career and ended at least 10 yrs ago got sick of waking up late missing the good waves spending loads of cash and never feeling as good as i do now after a surf or a good ride, its hard to explain that feeling of excitement when you look back at what you have just ridden a bicycle up/down/over to people that dont do it ,same with surfing
lol dez smashing your bones to agonising pieces and would rather take vitamins instead of pain killers cause itll mean a bit extra time off the bike
As Mr T said quit your jiba jabbering fool !
Nah Cannondale riders don't feel pain mate , after having that much money extracted from our wallets for a bike nothing hurts
p.s. Did the right thing and didn't ride the Dam as the rangers closed it , so stay tuned.
sorry about the rant ,i hate to think how bad ill be after 5 more weeks of doing sfa i bet its still really wet out there,im off to the acupuncture clinic today to get some relief, hope you all get a good ride somewhere out there today it looks like a nice one outside.
How did acupuncture help Leon ?
Well finally got back on the bike today just for a xc ride around the perimeter trail in Terry Hills ,
Wow great to get the blood flowing again and even managed to get the front wheel off the ground , well it was only a couple of inches but its a start.
Best thing about the ride was when in the car park I met some guys with big hit DH bikes who told us about a DH track they have built , checked it out looks the goods and stored it in the memory bank for a later date .
Ahh feel like a rider again well almost , when I can get both wheels off the ground again then I will be
and the beer I am drinking now is the first I have enjoyed for two months , a nice reward after a two hour ride its amazing how much better it tastes after getting some trail dirt
Hope you are feeling better Leon and the waves havn't been all that good I have been out of the water for two months missed a trip to Indo and had to watch my son go surfing every day without me but a break has done me good,
hope to get back in soon though as I bet you do too.
it is worth every cent ,havent been able to sleep all week and after that session i managed a 5.5 hr stint in a good sleep so today my spirits are lifted(it also helped driving down alexander st and seeing the sw blowing the swell flat, nothing missed today on the wave front)unless your into wave sailing,ha.how is that track i have not been there yet as im still a rookie maybe when im better ill hook up for a ride there (many hills up or down??? )ive done the four gates???? ithink is what its called i really enjoyed that one ,i love the challenge of looking up any hill and wanting to power up it without stopping.i love the fact there are so many trails around (at the moment, lets hope the fun police stay away)the nth beaches .as long as there is daylight between the tyre and the ground its a start.where was your trip to?hope you didnt lose any cash on flights etc ,did you have any pain riding today ,up hill maybe?
