Winmalee - Sat 19th July
The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.

Hello all,
I have ridden through some trails at Winmalee a number of times and have found them both great fun to ride, and a bit secret as hardly anyone knows about them. For a long time I have wanted to share this ride with some more people I know. On Saturday 19th July, I will be in this part of the world, so I would like to invite you all to come along and see what it's all about.
The tracks are fairly straight-forward in terms of technicality. I would rate the ride similar to completing The Oaks or Andersons. Most of it will be fire roads, reminiscent of trails like Terrey Hills or the Oaks. However there are some monster fast downhill / water bar sections like Andersons or GNR. The brakes will get a nice workout! For those so inclined, there will also be the odd longer hill to climb, so it is not all one way traffic.
There are a few different trails to try, so we would link up a good ride on the day. We can play it by ear. All of the trails are pretty good fun. Terrain starts similar to Terrey Hills, but once down in the valley it becomes similar to a rain forest. There are single tracks down there to ride as well.
The best place to meet is here, as shown in Google Maps:

It will be great fun. And for this ride, we are at least starting at 1:00 p.m. - the warmest part of the winter's day.
Hoping to see many of you there... you won't be disappointed.
Were you there and have a story to tell?

I am not sure what I will be doing this weekend so maybe at this stage.
Seeing as Liam has talked it up so much maybe it is worth a look...
Will be there at this stage, and good call on the late start. I'd imagine it would be a bit chilly out there early on.
Cheers,

Does anyone want to carpool? Cheers, Anke
I've got too much on for the next three weeks. I'm off to Cape York for 5 weeks at the end of July, so lots to organise.
Cheers

So two weeks ago i did a nice job of punchering my left shin in numerous places on my street bike (my 32 pinned pedals are called "NS Legeaters" after all...) and have only recently got proper mobility back. In fact i twisted my knee at the same time and its still not 100%, so while i was really looking forward to this ride i'm not sure i will be up for it.
I will keep my name on the list & I will give my knee a go one night this week to see how it is, but consider me only a 50% chance at this stage.

I'm good to go.
Any more takers?
Hi Liam...I'd love to join for Winmalee - but can't this weekend.
I could do the Sunday 27th July...please keep me in mind if you decide on alternative dates...?
Thx Hans
==========================
Happiness is a warm shock.
But the ride I am doing fits in with other things on that day. However I am more than willing to ride in Winmalee again sometime. Not sure about the 27th, haven't checked, but it's a nice place to ride and well worth the trip. We'll check it out again soon, okay?
Middle of the day though... hmmm
Are you aiming for 50km minimum?
LOL... geeze Loz, you're keen. Having looked at maps of the area can't imagine this ride will be anything like 50 kays. Who knows what Ditty as in store for us though, all part of an exploration ride.
About 30 something as a guess
hmm, long way to go for just 30kms....
Well, it's a new ride. To me, that's always worth the price of admission. And depending on the crew that assembles on the ride, that will determine how fast we go and how many km's we can complete. It is not just a loop. We can branch off and do more sections of trail if any of the riders were interested. A bit like a good recipe or a Terrey Hills ride, you can add more km's if you wish!
Sounds good. I haven't been well but feeling a lot better the last few days so I should be up for anything. See you tomorrow.
Notice my restraint
I would like one day to ride there too!
Have a nice ride.

Restraint? What restraint? Get your arse out there ya lazy so and so.
How good was that!?

And yes, hills most definitely are your friends.
Told you those are nice trails. Look at how those steep downhill sections plunge down, down, down!! When it is dry, the trails are very fast in places. Great fun with a small group like today. Plus this would double as a great training ride, if those so inclined keep it in mind. Hopefully we can go exploring out there again sometime. The good thing is, you now have a GPS track of it. So that's something. Happy trails!
Thank you Liam for posting the ride and the tour. That ride was exactly what I needed. The whole place was awesome but that second downhill, even with all the rocks I maxed out at 47.3km/h. I am defiently keen to head back. Can't wait for the photos.
Cheers,
Brian
