Mont 24 Hour 2017 - Steampunk Edition
The Ride Canberra site describes the main forest entrance as being the corner of Kowan Road and Sutton Roads. There is a parking area 5km into the forest along Kowan road with gates that may be locked. Call Canberra Connect (13 22 81) for the combinations or ride from Sutton Road for a warm up.
Blurb from the site:
WHAT IS THE MONT 24 HOUR RACE?
The MONT 24 Hour Race is our classic festival of MTB and the best way to spend a weekend of bike loving fun with a few thousand mates. It is also one of the largest events in Australia. If railing East Kowen’s fabulous trails right through the night with your friends sounds appealing, be sure to register a team of four or six riders (we’re teams only here). Whether you are a first timer or a seasoned XC racer, the Mont 24 is one of those bucket list events. At its heart the MONT is a laid back event, so if you don’t take your performances too seriously, rest assured you won’t be alone. Ride the Kow in 2017!

Looking for a team to join. I'm a confirmed midfield punter.
I see they are saying that they don't have a quorum at this stage and the call has gone out for more teams....
about the work-related team that's been rumoured.
That's a worry if the Mont is having trouble getting sufficient numbers...
Going ahead and now the last one.
Going by the entries their minimum number must be about 1400. That's going to put it currently at about the best participated event in the country. Only just enough to be viable?? Rocky Trail 24hr are surviving on way less numbers which means another private promoter could probably jump in and take over.
Wow, I'm just glad I can make it to the last Mont.
I know they'll have their reasons, and they'd be good ones, but it's disappointing news all the same.
I've done quite a few of these and it's just a great event. Sad to see it's not getting the numbers it needs to keep it going. I can't imagine it's anything Dave, Al and crew are doing wrong as it's run very, very well and the vibe is great.
Let's hope the weather doesn't f#*! it up!
Going to hang up the road bike and dust off the old MTB for this one.
I remember back when this event sold out and we all rode 26er's and drank plain old non hoppy hipster beer(s).
last one = sad face.
