Thursday Night Ride - something different
Terrey Hills Tavern (the usual place)
***** Wednesday's Night ride was cancelled due to the weather so whose up for the same ride on Thursday night - please either confirm or remove your star so I know who is coming ******
And now for something completely different.
Insteasd of the usual trails I'm suggesting we head off in the opposite direction and ride the sniggle running parallel to Mona Vale road to St Ives Showground and then pop over to Cascades to run down Quarry climb Lower Cambourne to Acron Oval re-entering the bush down the road to come out at Mona Vale rd to ride the sniggle back to the Tavern to rehydrate.
This ride will include a steep downhill, a lung busting climb, technical sniggle and it's at night so it's not for inexperienced or unfit riders.
Were you there and have a story to tell?

I'm in subject to my cold not getting worse
Will this include the show ground lap? Believe it or not I haven't done that yet.
We just skirt the Showground because I'm not too sure whether the Showground area is off limits once the gates are closed.
However, if anyone joining the ride has knowledge of the trails at the back of the Showground (Warrimoo, Wildflower, etc) and the group agree I have no problems diverting course.
Hopefully one night Stuart will come and show us all the trails back to his house.
This looks good but I'm out with the flu amongst other things. I don't think I will be out for quite a while
Hey Guys,
is there any chance of delaying the start by 20mins?
I really struggle to get up there in time after work.
Ben, Rob, Dylan and loz - do you have any problems delaying the ride 20 minutes?
Fine with me.
I'm not bothered. Anytime is fine with me paul
count me in then.
Laid up with the mumps at the moment, have been told not to get out of bed for the next week....hmm, we'll see. But then we are moving. Certainly intend exploring once I've settled. Rob nows the tracks, we did a fair while back and I think he has been back again since then
I'm still getting over a chest infection so this Wed is a no from me as well.
But the ride sounds good, we have being needing variety for a while now.
Next time.

Thats no good Pikey,
Hope you get better soon
yeah anytime is fine..
so whats the start time now?
Cheers,
Loz
We are dropping like flies! Being at work is like being in hospital, everyone has one ailment or another, HR should distribute face masks. It's so unfair that one unhealthy blighter should inflict the masses in this way (this is how I saw things this morning riding to work with nothing better to think about). I mean, it's not even cold out there, where is this bug from??!!
However, I will force myself through the sniffs and wheezing as it will be my last ride over here for a month. Same time I imagine?
Nice change to the standard Terry Hills ride. Could be tempted but very dependant on work . Also dependant on a new free hub for my bike.
Evan
it sounds like a simply faboulous ride and i am seriously upset that i also have this freakin chest infection/cold thing... i played touch last night hoping i would be able to breathe and i would NOTsay i was an asset to the team, so won't ride this week (you would be out until midnight!) but REALLY want to do this night ride so hope it becomes a regular course!!!
Quarry run?
Will it be timed?
Loz
Is the agreed meet/start time 19:35?
Hope to make it out there...
I believe we are goign DOWN quarry track Lozza. Thank god for that as I'm not really in the fitness state to go up that track too quickly at the moment.
Loz, considering the run will be DOWN Quarry and in the dark I think timing it would be certain catastrophic carnage. That said I reckon you could probably do it in less than a minute if you gunned it.
I'll let you downhill loonies time that one.. considering you can get up in 5 min, under 1 min should be possible.
Just watch out for the bog at the bottom Dylan
Junkie glad to see to coming along and yes the start time is 7.35pm.
With Junkie and Rob both coming even if we are not officially attempting "hot lap" times I get the feeling the pace will be good. Just remember there is an old guy on the SS coming along.
Christine, sorry to hear you won't be coming, I hope your chest gets better. We will also finish well before midnight, most of us need to be home by 10.00pm for our favorite annual soap opera.
Sorry guys... due to unforeseen circumstances can't make it now. I'm sure you'll find your way 'round the garden thingo. Should be fun at night, just watch for the big ruts after the showground. Call me with your GPS co-ords if you get lost!
Haven't been out for a week. Good to give the tights an airing (but don't tell the wife I've stolen 'em).
I hope to be there but if I'm not there by 19:35, start without me.
I'm trying to beat this home now..
http://mirror.bom.gov.au/products/IDR033.loop.sh...
I'm riding north from the Airport...
but even if I do beat it...
It will go up to TH? Are we still on??
Loz
it all looks pretty ominous up there: http://mirror.bom.gov.au/products/IDR033.loop.shtml
Tomorrow night instead?
I had hoped to join this but haven't shaken the cold/flu - have fun
sorry guys, I'm going to be a big girl and bail. It's too cold and too wet and I don't want to join the long list of walking wounded.
cheers
steve
As much as I need a ride I'm cancelling - cold I can handle but cold and wet its not worth it.
Yes I'm a wuzzy sheila boy, but I'm a warm and dry wuzzy sheila boy
Already rode home in the rain..
Am gonna give this one a miss, sorry.
Should probably nurse the bike anyway.
Cheers,
Loz
too dark.....
Anyone up for the same ride tomorrow instead?
The ride is on tonight of the weather holds off.
Either post of remove your star so I know who is coming
can't do it.. need to take my fork in for service, so no bike!
Have fun guys.
Loz
you can borrow my bike if you like - i can't make any rides on a Thursday night anyway...
Hey thanks, but I don't want to break another specialized
heheh
nah, Can't ride at all as I have to rush home as it is to get the bike to the shop to service... Wouldn't make it in time for the ride then...
Cheers,
Loz
careful on the specialized...
Did you manage to get your seatpost out the other day - I seem to recall that I nearly busted my back trying to get yours out
You leave yourself wide open...
Lorrie, you should know better.
Tien.
Enter Pikey and Stu
Either of them will be entering anything of that nature...
What diameter post are we talking about? I've got spaces and a special post lube

Guess I have to start getting fit at some stage.
I will probably get there a little earlier if that's ok. Guess I could sink a pint while I am waiting.
how was it? how far and how long did it take and is it going to be a regular night time track?
It was a great ride last night, the sniggle was cool in the dark. It took two hours, due in most part to my lack of fitness and Pauls inability to stay on his bike for any length of time before falling over or crashing into unsuspecting folliage.
had he been drinking again...
Not bad at all. The single track has some boggy sections but when it dries out it'll be very nice.
Cascades is Cascades. If you like hills then it's all good. Great effort by Paul to get up there single speed! I'll stick to my gears thank you
Yeah great ride. I prefer it this way, that single is great fun. The ride back up cascades is brilliant too. I was close to breathing up a lung I reckon, really tough. Down Quarry in the dark was pretty interesting as well
See you guys in a month...
Dylan
Thanks guys sorry I was so unco.
That was my first on the sniggle and Cascades at night and I enjoyed it. Next time maybe rather than turning straight off to climb Lower Cambourne we should ride more of the fire trail (Heath track I think) before turning around to do Lower Cambourne, just to add a few more K's to the mix.
I am sporting a nice bruise and abrasions on my right upper arm where that tree jutting out into the trail poleaxed me. The 29er saved the day - on a 26inch bike I woul have caught it in the throat or jaw.
Dylan was it 45 seconds down to get down Quarry - not bad (NPWS it was 8.30 at night and Ben went first to ensure there were no walkers, horse riders, druids or aliens likely to get hurt).
