Race Scoreboard

Guys, I'm sitting here jealous as hell for missing Mogo and I can't get a good picture of what happened and who came where - How did Carlgroover go and Supergav and Leo. All the blogs too, they are everywhere.

So I was thinking if we had a Race Scoreboard page (just like Hot Laps) where people could record there times and link a blog then you only have to go to one place for a complete wrap up. It would also become a historical record of NobMob racing results.

What do you guys think and don't worry about giving Rob extra work he can handle it.

Well, actually I have been thinking about this for a while.

The trackfield module is currently used for hill profiles and some maps. The plan is to extend the use of this so people can add profile data to their blog entries.

Now, seeing as blog entries can be linked to a ride meeting, and seeing as some ride meetings are races the logical progression is to do this:

- Create a 'Race Result' group on blogs. If you are blogging about your efforts in a race then simply fill in your category and position. Need a nice way to handle the various categories that are about (solo, pair, male/female, age groups, etc) and also DNF or DNS (what a nice TLA for 'Finished'?).

- Create a 'Ride Profile & Stats' group on blogs. This will hold a field you can copy/paste GPS data into, or alternatively you will be able to attach a file (TCX from your fancy new Edge 705 for example). By default this will show the time calculated from any such profile, but for those without a GPS or that want to place an 'official' time rather than one recorded by their timer you will be able to manually enter it.

Then... on the table of blog entries on a ride... if it's a race... make it list category/position, time, etc, etc.

Doesn't sound so hard now, does it? Eye-wink

Paul I do like the idea a lot, I was there and did the race and Im still a little lost as to where everyone finished.

In saying that it is not really a suprize given that I put myself in the hurt box in a big way on Sunday.

I knocked out a time of 5.57 to claim the line honours for the NoBMoB 100km riders, Steve 01, Carlgroover and Damien were not far behind. things get a little blurry from there on for me.

Come on Rob set it up then we can all fill in our details.

I know that the tail end went something like this

Myself, Leo, Tien, Pikey & Heckler

Rob, it might sound easy to you but you lost me completely - I will leave it in your capable hands.

Damien - thanks for the list and great ss effort.

Supergav - sub 6 hours - you must be on the roadie juice. Did your missus compete as well?

Nope Vanina hasnt quite made it to Sydney yet only 3 weeks till she gets here for good though.
I think her first NoBMoB outing will be the 24hr. Vanina Damien and myself will be going for top placing in the mixed 3 cat.

Does anyone run a book on the 24. I'd like put some money SuperGav's team.

As you can see by the results from Sunday here:

Basically, you should now complete the 'Race Results' (which is collapsed by default) details on any blog entry about a race. They will be shown in a table as you can see on the above page.

TODO:

- Automatically show/hide the 'Race Results' section on the blog form.
- Allow a way of entering race 'flavours' and categories.

Both of these need some JS trickery which might take a while to work out. Basically, when one completes the 'Re: This ride meeting' field some AJAX needs to go to the server and find out if this is a race, and any categories there might be. This wouldn't be an issue, but that field already does some autocomplete magic and I can't quiet figure out how to get the value after that has happened. Oh well - something to look into but the basics are there which is good for now.

you are a magician - very nice work!

all that mumbo jumbo you were going on about before but it turned out well, nice work.
Thanks John.

Like John I couldn't understand a word you wrote, but the table is great = good work Rob and quick.

Another suggestion for Luddites (like me) can the race results be placed in the Navigation box on the left hand side of the screen (like the Hot Laps) so that when people want to review previous race times/results they have a one stop place to do it.

Rob's picture

One stop shop for race results? You mean like the hot laps user view. Eg, here are my hot laps:

http://nobmob.com/user/1/hotlaps

You mean a view like that for all the races you've competed in?

Paul's picture

Rob - I like that, is it new or have I never noticed it before?

What I was hoping for was a place that holds the race results of all events in one spot, this would make it easy to look back at the results and see how you and others performed. Very similar to the table you created but rather than being situated in the Race Meeting notice it is situated in a Race Result page with all other race results.

The 'TODO' above are now done. Isn't Jquery nice? Eye-wink

Begs the question, erm... now what categories need entering into the CORC24 ride meeting? And the Yellowmundee this weekend too! Think we need a 'Laps' field for results in that kind of race, eh?

Perhaps the 'Race' category needs splitting into point to point and circuit races for that lap thing.

Looks good, well done. Also with the lap events you could also add a team name field to see who's in whos team? Where does it end Eye-wink
