Are there any other disabled mountain bike riders in sydney????
I've seen a guy with no right (I think) hand riding at MWMTB Short Course races, and at other events. He had a cup fastened on the bars for his damaged limb to fit in.
While commuting I've also seen a guy riding MTB on the harbour bridge with an artificial leg - but haven't seen this rider out on the trails.
Sorry - that's about all though.
Cool fair enough i am just getting back into mountain bike riding again after many years off being unhealthy. I am a below knee amputee and i was just wondering if there were any other disabled riders out there that hit the trail might have been good to catch up with them.
I remember (probably 5-6 years ago) riding Red Hill when this bloke with one leg came screaming down the drop zone.
He was skilled and fit and there was no way I could catch him.
Talk to Steve Hogg at www.cyclefitcentre.com who has fitted out (mainly road?) disabled cyclists and may provide some useful tips...
Not sure if this is any good to you as it's a bit out of your area and I haven't got any more details on exactly what it is
hi All
just a reminder about the central west disability sports program on 16th nov at lake Wallis
I spoke to sport and rec today all bike riding activities will be in the morning 10-12.30 I have had a few people say they will come and help on the day which I thank them for, if any body else can help that would greatly be appreciated please let me know.
anybody helping on the day has to sign ped forms which I'll bring
It on at Lake Wallis ,Wallerawang (Just down from the Lidsdale trails)
I came across a man with no right hand at the mont 24 this year. Not only was he riding with only half an arm, he was also riding a single speed surly with what seemed to be 6 inch tyres.
He was the winner of the day in my opinion.

Farkin might also have some keyword searches too??

There was a girl- Kirsty Busch- a couple of years ago that I kept on bumping into at events. She had a special glove with a Shimano spd where her hand used to be . and both brakes on the other side. I saw another one handed guy-another Jeremy I think, at the Dirtworks a couple of years ago. Australias fastest ever skier, Michael Milton is pretty good on a mountain bike as well, despite only having one leg.
I used to ski with him in his earlier days b4 he became famous , I thought I recognised him at the Mont , but being a Marshall doing my job at the time ,it was hard to go say hello to him.
I bumped into the right-hand amputee at the Fat tyre Festival in 2008. He did indeed have a Surly Pugsley, but it wasn't singlespeed - he had both brakes and both shifters on the left bar.
I reckon he must have been working like a one-armed paperhanger with all that stuff operated by the one hand, but could he ride! He was awesome - a real inspiration.
Someone here will know his name. If not, try rotorburn.
There's also a guy on bicycles.net.au called Alex Simmons who races pretty seriously, is a pro cycling coach and a lower leg amputee, but he rides only on the tarmac or velodrome so far as I know.
Hi mate !
I'm a disabled rider.
I lost my lower right leg in a motorcycle accident three years ago.
It has not stopped me, I still ride motorbikes and mountain bike.
Some of you maybe had seen me during the Woodforde to Glenbrook Classic this year. I was the only amputee in the field, so it wasn't hard to spot me !
I'm also looking for other Disabled MTB'ers . . . . there are not many around.
