Hi,
thanks to all for a gr8t weekend! Very funny night at the camp site!
I'm stuffed, but happy!!
Except for the Japanese chain ..........the FAT was super fast, but I have broken the chain only 6km after the start! Thanks Lance for stoping and offering help, and all other riders who offerd help, Thanks.
it took me about 20 minutes to make everything race ready again .... Yes, unfortunately I have not put on the Made in Germany Rohloff chain on the new F A T ....! Fool!!!
Race was as follows:
Started quickly and tackled hard, that is probably why the chain has broken, then unfortunately I had a lot of slow rider in front and had to overtake a lot of riders...
I arrived at the 27km drink / food break after 2 hrs. (1-40h riding time)
Have only stoped very briefly and (still in anger) pushed along hard.
Fortunately, I found a group (2 girls and 2 guys) which raced at a good speed and I followed them for about 15km. The drama was not yet over! With only 8 km to the finish I was able to leave them behind me, ...and ....yes yes had to happen, I'm still about 5 km away from the finish line and had a crash...sand, sand and more sand at a good speed and nearly made it... only little abrasions on Elbow, knee and hip..!
Quickly got back onto the F A T and pushed on..., my watch told me I can still do below 4 h. .....Finished about 3-45 h!!! with the whole drama I'm happy with that.
Whats the most annoying is that I have a Made in Germany, Rohloff chain on my other MTB and did think last week I should put it on the F A T !! But That's racing!
But it was my best MTB race so far. On my bike computer I had a riding time of 3-25h for 55km. (last year, same race 4-40h!!!)
Loved it, be back again next year....
