My first DNF
It was a great day for a race, felt good at the start. Started a little further back in the pack than i would have liked but was starting with two other friends on their first full fling. The gun went off & we were away, after fighting through the pack I was happy with my position after the first river crossing. Though the stomach wasnt feeling to good, had a bannana before the first single track & started to feel better. Spotted a friend further ahead & chased him down catching & passing him at the first transition, as i didnt stop. Then the hills came, attempting to ride the wall again for the third year wasnt a good ideal especially with the complete lack of training. Almost made it again but in doing so burnt the legs alittle to much, start to have problems with the knee just after that. Popped some more pain killers to try & numb the pain which worked for awhile, just started the tangles when the famous north accent could be heard & there was Gazza on my tail. Had a chat & played cat & mouse to the frequent flyers lounge. Had some of the free Gu fluid wasnt a good ideal as had stomach pains later on. Caught Gazza on the next hill who was cramping as i was asking anyone who passed if i could pinch a nurophen as id done mine. But eveyone who was carring had panadol, so had to walk most of the hill as my right knee was giving my some real pain & was staring to struggle so was happy to see the dirt road at the end of the forest stage the 6ks back to transtion was tough took me an hour. So I decided to pull the pin then. Took the Bus back to the start, had a shower & some food and started to feel better. Watched a lot of other people finish including a few people i was talking to as i struggled back to transtion, coming in at the 6.15-30 mark which was my goal. But there's always next year, thought i will be doing some proper training before my next event.
Hope you all had fun as it was a great event & congrats to all who finished.
