Sat 19 - Ourimbah

Coming Saturday, the long awaited trip to Ourimbah is on as discussed: Day trip to Ourimbah?. See that thread for discussion, but seems time to play in the downhill area is the go, plus perhaps a further venture on some of the fire trail is a possibility (TBD on the day).

Meet 9am, North end of Red Hill Road as per the map here. You can clearly see the freeway turnoff from this view (which I believe is sign posted 'Wyong' - thx arpit). If you enter, "Red Hill Forest Rd, Ourimbah, New South Wales" into Whereis you should get decent directions.

I can offer up to 3 people transport without drama, will be heading up the Pacific Highway leaving St Leonards around 7:45 I guess. PM or mail me if you need a ride (erm... or you'd rather take your van and have room for moi, I'll be in that too for the company on the way).

Bring it on! Smiling

After two months out with a knackered back I am looking to get back on bike. Like the sound of Ourimbah will give it a go, taking it easy(if there is such a thing) and letting you crazy nutters fly on by

Good on you mate! Will you have a go on the downhill track or stick to the singletrack? Both are great! To be honest though, if you've got a hardtail, I'd recommend going with the singletrack, given your back condition.

That said, I'd love it if you tried the downhill track, I just don't want you to have to go get an operation on your back afterwards!

Another alternative would be to take the downhill track slowly. Most of the drops can be rolled down.

Robin,

I also have room for two other bikes on the back and at least two on the roof. Robin, if you get no takers for a lift you can leave your car at my place and keep me company. I miss our constructive disagreements we shared on the urban Polaris. lol. other wise I'll see you all up there.

So all wanting some company let me know. I’ve got a company petrol card and I’m not afraid to use it Eye-wink

See Ya’s

As keen as I am I have been volunteered for some system maintenance Saturday afternoon so would need to be back early. New job means I have to look keen.
That said I may have to give it a miss and ride local.

Hopefully there will be another adventure up there soon.

Hi all, well, I’m in for Ourimbah. Not a great rider, but I have ridden at Thredbo a couple of times and survived so I’d like to give the downhill track a go and then have a look at some of the other tracks.

As I’m coming from the east, I’ll make my own way there, and meet you on Red Hill Rd. If anyone is coming from this way and wants a lift let me know. I think I can fit another bike in.

My knowledge of the Ourimbah area isn’t very good – any ideas how long the drive should take, from say the freeway start?

Cheers, and looking forward to a good day,

Paul

Sorry all, I'm out. My trusty new stead, that took AMB almost 6 weeks to deliver, went into the shop today for its first service, with less than 100km on the dial. According to the mechanic my "bottom shaft", the axle between crank arms, is bent and now on the way to Melbourne for warranty repairs. Strange its not the first time I've been told that. Out for a week and a half. Atleast now I know why it has been as noisy as a small 250cc.

Yes I know I have another bike, unfortunately my only set of reasonable pedals are on the Enduro, sitting at the shop.

Fargs's picture

decided I very good at falling off last time I rode so gone back to pedals (and outriggers) happy to let you use the SPD pedals if you need for Sat. unless of course you chicking out ! Smiling

PS Is single track wide enough for outriggers ?

Christine & Jeff, (and answering Paul’s trip time question)

From my place at Belrose 50-60 mins will do it (40 to 50 from the start of the freeway)

If you guy's meet at my place (39 Forest Glen Cres) at 7:30am that will give us time to pack and go. Christine if you need to be picked up let me know and I can get you at 7:00. Robin, your still welcome to meet at my place at 7:30 if you have no passengers.

All others, lets make sure we all meet up in the morning so drop your mobile numbers on the site.

My homework has me following this route:
1. From the Sydney - Newcastle freeway pass the Ourimbah turn off then Palmdale.
2. Turn Left at the Cobbs Rd turn off Mardi.
3. Cobbs Rd winds right to become Old Maitland Rd.
4. Then left onto Yarramalong Rd.
5. Then left into Redhill Forest Rd.
6. For there I guess we look out for bike carrying cars. Yippy!!!

(if my directions are stuffed up please let me know)

See you all there at 9:00am

Greg

it's either the bottom bracket or the casing. If the casing is bent, then you need a new frame, I would be not happy with a guy with a hammer straightening it up for me - alu doesn't like that.

However if the bottom bracket is bent, then that is a $30 part.

However!!! You don't HAVE a bottom bracket on the enduro, they have an external bearing system.

Thank you Greg...I can be at your place at 7.30, it's only up the road.
Stuart, my friends all have Cannondales and other nice bikes, do you want me to ask if you can borrow one?

MEE

ps i dropped my mobile phone in my horses breakfast which is dampened with molasses water so am currently mobile-less...I KNOW!

What gets me Justin is that it has been making noise since I got it and in that I have yet to either jump with it or even lay it over for that matter, I don't know how it happened. Remember at the lookout I flipped the bike over to show you the "noise" to see if it was normal, well apparently it shouldn't have been rubbing like that. Atleast I now know why I couldn't get the gears adjusted so that they didn't rub on either big or little cog. BTW Rob, this is why I couldn't keep up with you on the weekend LOL, atleast thats what I'm sticking to. I would also expect Justin that they won't try and straighten the "axle". I would think that they only want to check that it is bent before they send a replacement, I'm hoping thats the case anyway. I'm in their hands at the moment, until I get it back that is.

OK Fargs, you've called my bluff. I was on the fence about going this weekend anyway as I have lots to do at home, and also a little lacking in mojo when it comes to this downhill stuff, so this did just swing the pendulum in the stay at home direction. I would expect that my pedals are still sitting in the shop with the rest of the bike. Thanks heaps for the offer anyway.

pikey's picture

Thanks anyway Bernd but we will be fine.
Ill put your number in my phone so we can call you around 8:00 to see where your at!

Hi All,

As Im not familiar with our destination can those who have been there before inform us if there is a food outlet nearby? Otherwise I will recommend we all bring a contribution for a picnic lunch.

Peddle we thrust therefore eat we must. Rocks bring no fear, come end of day lets all drink beer. (if your friends can sneak them into the hospital that is!)

I have got a pack of mini picnics and 15 mini packets of crips to tide anyone over...

Amazing! Thanks to all who showed and those who led us blindly round the top single trail Eye-wink

Profile from today's ride:

http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/episode/view....

Have created an Ourimbah gallery, please stick your pics from today in there. Don't forget no need to re-size them (unless they are mega-huge) as it does that for you (and other folk can then 'view original' to get just that).

If someone feels the need to write a few words, please add a story and I'll stick a few pics on it and promote to the front page. Am feeling rather sleepy right now or would do myself.

Bernd's picture

Yes, it was special!!!!
Thanks everyone, what a good day.

Thank you everyone for a fantastic day on Saturday, I had a ball...
Everyone was so nice and the ride was great and very pretty!
My legs were a bit stiff yesterday which I blame on that horrible first hill...
Bernd’s home brew hit the spot at the end though hey!

MEEE Smiling
