Newbie saying Hi
Just wanted to introduce myself Im Roger a very very newbie.
Im an inner city dweller who has just re-discovered cycling and the joys of youth long since past.
At the encouragement of an old acquaintance I went riding 2 weeks ago and I loved it. Being focused (some people call it obsessive) I immediately started looking to buy a bike. I wanted something good, but not over the top and Giant seemed to be the bike of the masses so I bought one.
Little did I know the world of retail wonder that would open before my eyes. I bought an XO, a helmet, gloves, hydration pack, clothes, trip computer, lock and bike rack (did I mention that some people think I'm obsessive). I think I just put someone’s son through college.
Ive never had an issue with fitness, (fitness stayed well away from me and I stayed well away from fitness) so Im going to start off slowly riding Centennial Park just to get back in the swing of things. I still have to buy some cages for my pedals and lights for night riding (hmmm what else can I buy) .
Anyway Im going to check out your site from time to time to learn the lingo, the protocol and the pecking order and hopefully once I loose some of my verandah and manage to ride a few kilometers without needing the paramedics to follow me I will join you for a ride.
Cheers
Roger

Hi Roger
Welcome back to the world of MTB
There's some great trails and a lot of fun to be had without travelling too far.
See you on the trails sometime
Phil
There is no pecking order. If there ever appears to be a pecking order, tell them to pull their head in.
Try some rides at Terrey Hills, like the Perimeter Track and Duckholes. Those a quite rider friendly and are only about 15-20km. There are no massive hills so a noob will feel right at home while you are gaining your skills. If you feel up to it, try Manly Dam. Only about 10km round the loop, but well worth it. If any of the tech-y parts scare you, get off and walk down. No shame in that. Plus, most riders here cannot ride the whole lap without stopping on some of the obstacles (me included).
See you out there, and most importantly, have fun!!
I started riding a year ago and have learned so much from riding with the lovely NobMoB guys. As Little-Ditty says, there is no shame in walking the tricky sections - we don't leave anyone behind!
Skip Centennial park and come on some 'social rides'. The more you ride, the fitter you get!
Yes Terrey Hills trails are great to start on. Bobbin Head is also quite reasonable but a bit short.
It has been a while since a Beginners Ride has been organised? There used to be more of these when I started 2 years ago. Definitely learnt a lot back then.
always ride Narrabeen Lakes, they are fun and flat and you can easily have a coffee in the middle, beginning or end...
Post a social ride or ask for one and people will come along and ride with you - or Buck...are you suggesting you are going to host one soon?!!!
So many responses in such a short time is overwhelming, don't you guys have anything better to do (ha ha ha just kidding)
WOW - Ditty, Buck, Christine, et al thank you for your support and encouragement. How friendly are you guys.
Its way too early to even consider me posting a ride as a newbie, that would be too forward. Instead Im just going to sit back and wait for a ride to be posted that suits my level. Besides I cant post a ride when I dont know the trails. (Im an extreme Virgo = anal, thorough and cautious).
The good news I have nearly convinced an old fiend (Drew) to get off his butt and turn his life around (very nearly the pot calling the kettle black) so I may have someone to ride with until I get to the level you all seem to be at.
Next time there is a slow newbie ride look out for Drew and me.
a wall flower!! If you want some of us to show you the trails just ask! And if you are slow and need lots of stops that is fine because we just chat to each other and eat!! The best way to get involved is to... get involved! when do you want to go on a ride?!!!!
MEEE
Hi Hot Rod,
I ride in the park 2-3 times a week for fitness as well as some technical practice(There are some fun sections hidden in there)so feel free to contact me if you'd like someone to ride with and any guidance I might be able to offer.
Paul.
I'm happy to do a beginners ride in January.
I won't be available much for the rest of Dec. I got the huckfest next weekend and then I'll be heading down to Melbourne and Thredbo (yeeeha!)after that.
How does that sound? That way we'll have plenty of notice and maybe we can even beat the numbers that Bernd got on his newbie ride!
Edit: Actually the weekend Dec 13-14 may work too
I'm in that photo.
Hey did you get a Trance XO or a Reign XO? Post a Terry Hills - Perimeter Track social ride, it's nice and easy. I'll come if it's like a Saturday or Sunday, not too early.
