hi all

im new to this group, i have a scott voltage yzo i was looking at the pictures of people riding and they have rear suspension and the whole set up going, and i was wondering if many people ride with hard tail bikes. im still learning but i love riding, every trail i see or hear about i end up doing it. im based in the hornsby area so i have done most the trails around there

im fit but im afaid if i go on one of the meets i will slow the other riders down and what is the general age of the groups, im only 16

thanks all

scott

P.S yes i know i have the same name as my bike.

your last name is Voltage. Man that's freaky....

Welcome aboard. Lots of people still ride hard tails and kick arse on them too.
Not sure why really.

Maybe it's an age thing and I need a big comfy recline.. I mean I need a dually for comfort but I wouldn't go back to hard tail.

but hey, run what you brung and have fun

Welcome Scott.

To answer your question (and show anyone else who thinks you can't ride big stuff on a hardtail) just look in the gallery for pictures of Squidly. In particular this sequence:

Squid Is he going to make it? Too easy.

Riding a dualie is undoubtedly easier on the body, but a big bike is no replacement for big skills as shown here.

hey mate

i ride a hard tail
i just did the ride in the blue mountains with about 30 riders (or there abouts)

i had no issues with the hard tail on the tracks we did
there were a few bumpy spots where i had to slow down overall most of it was quite easy
there were others with hard tails so i wouldnt worry to much

i see a hardtail as a good entry level bike, personally if i continue to ride with the nobmob members and by myself whenever i can, i will eventually upgrade to a dualy

but no rush i say

Stick with the hard tail until you can afford to upgrade, or feel that others are leaving you behind on the rough stuff. As others have mentioned it does depend on what sort of riding you are doing too. Elite XC riders seem pretty happy on hard tails. Just don't let anyone lend you a go on a full susser until you can afford one Smiling Personally I wound't be able to go back to a hard tail now.

there is no way I could go back to a hard tail now, they are just so much more comfortable & fun on the rough stuff.

Sure Squid can kick most of our butts on HT or Dually but he has the blood of Royal Egyptian Morons in his veins...

Brammie Boots was another freak on HT. He rode the first race on the old state mines trail on a HT with 3" RST forks that were frozen int he up and down travel but have a bit of fore and aft... Vee brakes and triple rings, pretty sure he was wearing his favourite pair of slip on work boots too. He was 20seconds behind the elite winning times.

He regularly kicked our arses on seriously rough trails like Old Bat and the like.

But me, I haven't got those kind of skills or kahoonas and need all the help I can get.

Im 16 also and also ride a scott hardtail,
i love it hardtails are awesome plus they are lighter
and easier to flick around tight stuff on ( I find )

But it is all personal choice ride what you think feels right
