G'day all,
I was out at the Great North Road around St albans last weekend having a picnic with the family, and have a couple of questions about riding it.
So if anyone can help out please let me know. I was planning on getting the wife to drop me at the top and thn meeting them at Wisemans Ferry.

- How far is it from the top (near Mogo Creek camp area) back down to the Ferry ?

- Coming back down which is the best route to take Devines Hill or Western Commisioners to get back to the ferry ?

Cheers,
Cookie

You are not allowed to ride down Devines Hill, only up that track - you should walk your bike down or risk a fine if the rangers see you. It's boring and flat anyhow so take WCT or Shepherds Gully. The gully is rough and rocky but lots of fun so long as you don't fall off Eye-wink But you then need to ride 9Km round to Wisemans on the road. Riding down WCT is a hoot for the last Km or so (very steep, fast descent), but you miss out a lot of the really fun bits of GNR that way which is why you want to go I assume.

For an idea of distance - from the junction of GNR/Mogo Creek to the North side of the East ferry it's:

- 42Km via Devines Hill (you will have to walk your bike down the hill).
- 45Km via WCT.
- 50Km via Shepherds Gully & the road round.

If you like you can go down Finches Line. It's good and not quite as rocky as Shepherds Gully and it pops out onto bitumen where one shall turn right and ride just a few km to the ferry.

I prefer Shepherd's Gully. Always go big!! Laughing out loud
