Make an example of this clown!
Too many motorists are getting off with community service or temporary bans on their driver licence which I think is an insult considering number of injuries/deaths from these types of accidents.

Lets not forget the amount of busted cycle gear he got away with destroying not to mention the lives he put in danger while still having no regard for the cycling community's well being and road rights (as displayed in court)... bah.

He hasn't quite got away with destroying her property. The way the law works, the cyclist (or the insurance company, if applicable) needs to sue, in the civil court, to recover damages. Since the culprit has been succesfully convicted by the criminal court, to win the civil suit is almost a sure thing. So much so that his legal representative would advise him to settle.
This is all known as due process.

Imagine the horror of being sued for liability by several people at once. Personal injury will be taken care of by his green slip ( his insurer will love him ) yet unless he's covered the liability for property damage could be huge.
In any case, the guy is a fool. To stand in court and suggest that it's against the law for a bike to use a lane of the road is clear proof of his stupidity. Where do these people come from? Even the judge contradicted him. Fancy that, a judge who knows the law...

Dont think he is helping his defense with ignorant comments like this one.

Bakr suggested to Ms Nicholls that she had incriminated herself by admitting she was riding in the left lane.
"By law it's not your lane, your lane is the emergency lane," Bakr told Ms Nicholls.
Magistrate Chris Clisdell said that cyclists were permitted to drive in traffic lanes.

Too many episodes of Boston Legal I think.
I dont ride my bike, my bike rides me... we are currently in counseling...
Sounds like this bloke has already "got life" as an idiot.
Hopefully they ban him from driving until his IQ reaches his shoe size.
Go Big or Go Home
An article was posted in the SMH website saying the scum was guilty. Now we await sentencing.

And anyway, if any of the riders don't like the outcome, they can sue the guy individually.
It will be good to see one of life's zeros getting their 'dues'. What goes around...
