Mont Warm up - Canberra weekend explorer 28/2 - 1/3
Coming from Sydney, drive into Queenbeyan, turn left at the roundabout where Red Rooster is and stay on this road for about 11km. Park on the side of the road where the gate is. For better directions try this link CORC: Events: Race Venues.
Lets get down to Canberra for a weekend of exploration and training.
Having not been to Sparrow Hill I'd like to get down for an exploratory ride prior to the Mont and of course log a number of kays training.
Sparrow Hill Saturday
Majura or Stromlo or other Sunday
I'd expect it to be a fairly long days but with breaks here and there for food and water refils. Primarily this is a training ride but I would expect a fair amount of social activity as well.
If we get numbers with different aims we can split into smaller groups (maybe 2) as we have before to ensure everyone gets their fix. Can work that out closer to the day.
Accomodation will be at the Carotel at this stage where I have reserved 2 cabins at $244 each. 1 double bed and 4 double bunks so they sleep 9 or 10 if you are good mates.
Weather may play a factor but the booking doesnt have to be confirmed for a while yet.
***Opened up the numbers as most seem to be daytripping, remember to advise if requiring Accommodation
So click yes if you are coming and then post up whether you need accommodation.

Delicious and I are coming down for the day (Saturday). I might get my arm twisted and stay for the night (seem to be quite spontaneous these days)
Really looking forward to this - Craig, thanks for organising and sorry I'll miss your Oaks ride this Saturday.
I'll be going just for the Saturday. So even though I've clicked that star I don't need to be considered for the accomadation.
Sparrow hill is tops and I recommend this for all. If it's buff, flowing singletrack that one is looking for than look no further. Better than Ourimbah, better than Yellowmundee, better than Majura Pines. You read it here first. Move to Queanbeyan. Build a custom chromoly hardtail to ones' personal taste. Ride no where else. Fantasy complete.
"a custom chromoly hardtail to ones' personal taste"
and should be in this one.... but I m traveling for work a bit before and after that w-end and I may not be able to get the Sat. "free"!!
lets hope I can make it!
Bernd
in my vehicle if anyone needs a lift - I'm staying the 2 days. The only stipulation is that you need to live somewhere between Hornsby & Pymble or not far off the M2 or M7 'coz I need to get home from my graciously granted weekend away before Sunday tiffin to avoid death by a thousand withheld marital favours..
I may be away on my overseas work trip by this date but if I'm about still I will definitely come down for the day. Hope I can make it so I at least have some training in for the Mont
Great ride on Saturday Craig, most enjoyable.
Hi Morgan,
PMed you.
Thanks.
Tien.
If you are coming even if for a day....click the star.
I'll keep track of the accommodation through the discussion trail.
Many Thanks
Craig
I'm in and should have space for 2 more bodies and bikes depending on status (ie flying solo).
Ben, is the tribe heading down too ?
Thanks Craigs for organising..look forward to catching up and also another run at sparrow.

Evan
I have a leave pass for Saturday, so see you there!
I'll be down after lunch on Saturday, and will stay at a mates on Saturday night (confirmed).
As my trip away has been postponed, I will be able to make Saturday for a test run of Sparrow Hill for the Mont so see you there!
If anyone wants to car pool for Saturday only then PM me. I live in the south though so would need to get Penshurst area.
But for family things . You will love the Mont course though .... if you can find it , i rode it last night and it is sweet as ! if things change i will be there with bells on
Hopefully we're not sleeping in the Car. Craigs Book myself and Debs in for accommodation. Should be an awesome weekend. I did somethhing simmillar three weeks ago. Did I read some where that there is a 'running festival' at Stromlo on Sunday?
hey craig book me in for accommodation.i'll take any opportunity to ride sparrow hill love it there.
yet to ride Stromlo should be fun, this will be my second ride with the nobmob, the first ride was with
Liam at Marramarra National Park 5 hour epic ride in 42 degree heat on Australia Day.This should be a
little cooler i hope.
Comrades,
Saturday for Sparrow Hill is cool!
But which track are we we riding on Sunday? My vote is for Majura, IMHO the Stromlo track is too dry, dusty and exposed (it hasn't rained properly in Canberra for 6 weeks). Majura seems the safer bet - covered, pine forest, sniggle, less dust (and less mud if it rains).
Any thoughts?
Cheers, Hans

Happiness is a warm shock.
Majura is surely the most likely Sunday location and we should now re check who's requiring accomm.
IF you are staying the night in Canberra a require accommodation, check the list and let me know.
Craig
Morgan
Joe
Hans + Benji?
One Chalet at the Carotel is looking good.
Craig
Debs and Eyeball will be staying. We are good enough friends to share a bed.
Thanks Craigs
I'll be staying the night.

NikNak and I will stay over if theres room. Look forward to seeing you all
I would like to come along if anyone pulls out.
I was promised a ride from Eyeball and Deb, but I did not know that it was already booked out.
Anyway, if there is still room, or anyone pulls out, I would like to come along.
Cheers, Mathias

Morgan many thanks for looking after the accommodation numbers...
I have opened up the ride now to allow more people to come along but make sure that you state whether you require accomm as will need to finalise early this week.
Craig
I'm planning to come down Sat if accom avail otherwise will do a Sun only.
As Craig's tall substitute, I have added you to the list of snorers above.
Morgan, wasn't sure if numbers were down that a 2nd cabin would be booked.
We are coming for 2 days but will sort out our own accommodation.
I'm just coming down for the Saturday. See you there.
Thanks
Is it too late to throw my hat in for accomodation
I don't snore much, but I'm quite flatulent
ok with 10 we are just ticking over into a second cabin.
It is possible to sleep 10 in one so long as someone shares the double....any couples(or good friends) coming down?
I have not confirmed with Carotel but would like to call them tomorrow.
Lets have a quick banter about final numbers and whether we can squeeze 10 in the cabin or stretch into a second.
Craig
Andy your post was 4 seconds before mine. Apologies I missed it.
Of course we can work something out....
Calling all maybe's!!!
Insert twilight zone music
Shall I book the 2 cabins peoples??
Looks like 11 with Andy
Two cabin's sound good craig a bit more room,
and if the day tripper's want to stay there
will be no problem.
cheer's
joe
Guys, i'm out so will try to find something closer to home if possible...
Enjoy, and watch out for those trees that seem to get closer at sparrow sometimes !

$50 can't be bad for half the farts we would have to endure in 1 cabin.
and Niknak although we are married so if we really have to share a bed I guess we could stretch to that....
Hi,
I'm a new rider who would like to have a bit of a zoom around with more experienced riders.
I'll only be coming down for Sunday and won't need accomodation.
It's cool that groups like this are out there.
Thanks
Novice Rider
You peoples coming for Sunday, what time do you want to meet up?
I'd think no later than 10am?, we that stay the evening may kick off a little earlier but be back to the meeting spot to meet you.
Majura seems to be the favoured spot for Sunday.
Craig
2 comfy cabins..
For the 11 staying over it shall be $45 each.
Craig
Hans and I are leaving East Lindfield bright and early at 6am Saturday morning
And coming back on Sunday after Majura
He has spots available for 2 happy campers
You can make your way there or can pick up if you're on the way
There is a promise of in flight entertainment including videos (MTB of course)
4 speaker sound system with a range of tunes
And stewardesses to assist with beverages and food
Apparently Hans is the consummate host, so should be interesting
Hey if I can convince you to take the M2-M7-M5 route I'd be happy to join the bus. Am just off the M7 so not much of a diversion.
I will shout coffee's etc for breakfast to cover the tolls.
Craig
OK Craig - you're in.
We'll squeeze you in (between the flight attendants)... but your bike goes on the Thule.
PM me your p/u co-ordinates and the type of coffee you are offering
Cheers, Hans

I would imagine we will trek to the Carotel together but incase I missed something..
The Carotel is on the Federal Highway at Watson just as you come into town from Sydney. On the left hand side. www.carotel.com.au
Craig
Anyone able to offer a lift down on the Sat, I'll be making my own way back?
Craig, Morgan,
Please have me down for overnight accommodation please.
Thanks.
Tien.
PS: Craig, give Han's your address for pickup on Saturday morning.
plenty of room.
