Hope I'll get out of the office on time
Anke, I live on the north side of the picnic table, so i will come in from Kissing point road. If your coming from the southern side (which many will) it will be quicker to park at the North end of Vimiera Rd and ride north down the cycle way. This could save you some time.
Time changed to 6pm. I was going to struggle this week to get there by 5:45pm.
I'm there, but I'm thinking I might bring my son along too..... however I'm wondering if this would be too much for him yet? We're talking a 10 year old who is not bad on his bike but is still getting his confidence up. He can handle our local fire trails as long as they're not too steep. Opinions please?
Col.
This ride avoids large hills. Some very short hills are loose/eroded. If he takes it easy (slow and keeps control) going down the hills he should be fine. I think it can be good for a child to pad up, at 10 the balance and reflexes are not truly developed. He should be ok. This Lane Cove ride is more of a slow cruise and a chat about how great it is that it's Friday. It's also not too bad in the heat as we ride in a cool shaded gully near a creek. That is much cooler than riding up on hot ridge in the sun. Maybe wear something bright, we could link two sections by a bit of road. A 10 year old is allowed to ride on a footpath I think. We will do 15-20 kms and it's mostly 0-5% grade ranging from about 40 to 80m above sea level. That's pretty flat over 20km's. Average speed of about 7-8 kms (slow).
Please SMS if your going to be late. Number in profile.
Allow for Friday traffic, it sucks around there on Fridays. Coming down Kissing Point Rd from Pacific HWY at Turramurra can be better than Pennant Hills Rd on a Friday.
If this ride covers the same ground I did on Wednesday, my advice is to use Aeroguard as soon as you step out of the car!
Thanks Noel, I appreciate that - It sounds like my son would do fine on this. Of course, since he's at school right now I haven't actually asked him if he wants to come yet. He may say no....
I'll be there regardless.
Col.

Need to rest my knee...
It looks like my son is going to pull out... he doesn't think he can hack the distance. So it'll just be me. Here's hoping the rain doesn't spoil things.

Lane Cove holds water. If we went, we would be fording creeks 30 cm deep and riding through huge puddles and over muddy bogs on the fire trail. I'm not afraid of water, but it's not good for 'Princess' (my silver and anodised Trance X0) she would not be happy about it. I just think it's a bit too wet. Bloody rain! Lets try it again another week.
right, to wet!
Bernd
