Details:

In prepration for Dirtwirks it is time to do a longer ride. I'm thinking 60 - 70ks depending on how everything goes.

Plan is simple, Go up devines hill, continue along GNR past Claire's bridge until it is time to head back. Go back same way but down Shepherds gully and race back the 8ks of road to the ferry.

This is a training ride so It'll be minimal stops and reasonably decent pace. Heaps of water and food is required. Sometimes there is water to refill at the buddist retreat but I'm not sure one count on it.

I hope there are a few takers out there who, just like me, needs to build up the fintness again to tackle another 100k race. I'm going from northern beaches and have room for one more in the car. [ Ed. not any more ]

Cheers,
Staffan

having not done anything longer than about 30K for a long time.. i will catch up with you guys at the start and see if i can keep up..

staffe's picture

Don't worry, you'll be fine. I'm in the same position - I have not done any long rides either since the fling so this will be the first "real" ride in a while.

Cheers,
Staffan

Hello,

I haven't been there, but assume there are two ferries as far as I can tell from the map? I guess we ride on the North Side of the 'East' ferry? Where do you park? North or South side of the 'East' ferry?

Thanks
Sascha

One side has nothing but a road and a little ferry house. Park on the other side where there is a park and some buildings.Park as close to the kiosk as you can get. YOu'll find us there.

cheers,
staffan

did it take for the 70ks? I am STILL at work and delighted someone actually posted something!!
plus i am busy working out which boys I don't know are 'roid boys' for avoidance purposes!!

obmal's picture

underestimated the drive and arrived about 8:15..
ended up doing a fastish ( well fast for me ) pace to Clares Bridge, but you guys had too much of a head start..

at least next time I know how long it takes to get there!

staffe's picture

including two mechanical and one flat tyre. I don't really know what 'roid boys' mean but i guess it refers to over ambitious riders. I guess this ride could fall in to that category?

christine's picture

are those super fast riders freaky rider - you know, like Shaun, Steve (1,2,3), Bruce, SuperGav V - there is quite a long list of them...then there are the undercover roid boys like Lozza, Ben, Pikey, Paul, Peter etc...

kiwiboy's picture

(ste)roid boys- get it?
bit of a slur really but there you go... I'm sure they would all pass a drug test - well for steriods anyhow Eye-wink

staffe's picture

Thanks, And thanks for the list of roid boyz, I'll keep my eyes open and join when roid rides are organised Smiling

christine's picture

there are more than i listed of them!! .. and then there are the different TYPES of roid boys - some are really good at doing the social thing and are able to ride slower and some are crap at it as they only have one speed - quick!
having said all that they are ALL just great and lovely!

kiwiboy's picture

brings up an interesting topic. How many blokes can ride at 'social speed'?

I seem to have only one speed - as fast as my fitness, skill and the conditions will allow. Of course to many that may be a social speed, since I am old, fat and slow Eye-wink but nevertheless it is a bit quicker than many 'social' speeds, which I find myself incapable of maintaining for any length of time, to the immense frustratoin of some with whom I have attempted this difficult feat.

Maybe a poll there?
