First SS team race

Well what a great race & my First 24hr on an Single Speed. We arrived around midday Friday set up camp quickly then headed to rego, to see if we could change are team members around as we had decided a few day before to enter a SS team for fun. Well the Girl at rego was very accommodating & quickly changed it all around & then we where set. We headed out for a few laps, & realized that my head set had shit its self, thankfully the onsite mechanics where able to fix it. So now I was ready.

It rained during the night which kept the dust down on the trail. Thankfully I was doing the second lap as there was a big mix up at the start as always. so our rider was one of the last to find his bike but somehow he pulled it back. My first lap was a little tough as i'd never really raced on a SS so I was trying to find myself as well as passing as many people as I could to make up for the mix up at the start. Once I found myself I was happy to just keep peddling. I have to say I couldn't have asked for a smoother track to start racing on a SS.

The double laps where tough though, I love night laps but found a lot of people where switching off when you approached them & when I was asking to pass. So I did most of my passing on the fire roads which was easier as most where dropping to granny for a quick breather & as I was riding my SS (33/17) I couldn't so would just pop past. Then midway into my second lap I got cut of by one of the elite who just called out track & passed where there was very little room to move. So I clipped a tree, quickly righted myself & readjusted my handlebar light & clipped my garmin back on. Then finished my lap crossed through transition and went to stop my GPS but it wasn't there so I started ranting & raving. I went to look for my teammate & he wasn't there so I rode to camp where he was getting ready to leave as we had allowed just over 2.5hrs for night laps but i'd managed to shave 20mins off. Then Craig went out fast as always.

2hrs later in he comes screaming for Gonz to get up as it was his lap. As Craig had just done two 1hr laps including the mix at change over with me. So Gonz wasn't ready as he thought he still had an hour togo, so out Craig went again for a third lap on an SS. when he came in this time Gonz was ready & off he went. But true to form Craig & Gonz's next change over went the same again so Craig did another lap.

We finished early as Marcus was out of it due to not sleeping all night so I was going to do his & my last laps together, But it all went down hill after I noticed there was no line for the showers & had one, Then that was it my racing was over as I was to relaxed after that.

Have to say a Big thanks to my Teammates Gonz, Marcus & Craig (the Machine)
