Details:

The Classic is on again! This year's NRMA CareFlight Woodford to Glenbrook Classic will again attract in excess of 1000 entrants to run or ride the Oaks Fire Trail through the beautiful Blue Mountains National Park from the town of Woodford down to the Euroka Clearing near Glenbrook.

Covering 25km of undulating bushland, the trail is incredibly scenic and a must for keen mountain bikers and trail runners. Participants are supported the full length of the track by Rural Fire Service crews stationed along the way.

This year's event will again finish with a community fair-style reception in the beautiful Euroka Clearing. Last year the participants raved about the excellent finish-line setup and improved amenities and this year we plan to improve on these still further. The whole family is welcome to join in the fun with rides for the kids, food stalls, displays and a stage with entertainment throughout the day.

So if you have not yet tried the event then make this year your first – it won’t be your last! In 2008 just over 1000 people joined in the fun, raising $15,000 to help support the life-saving work of NRMA CareFlight and $5000 for the Blue Mountains Rural Fire Service.

Mountain Bike riders start from 9.00am and Runners start from 10.00am. Exact start times and transport and parking details will be advised closer to the event.

Registration is just $40 for adults and $20 for juniors which only covers the cost of conducting the event. Money raised by entrants through donations and fundraising activities helps to fund the services of NRMA CareFlight. Each entrant is asked to assist with this fundraising – your effort may help us to save the life of yourself or someone you love.

Teams and individuals are welcome to enter. The registration process is online and easy to follow. We will take registrations until Friday 19 June 2009 or until the event reaches the maximum number of participants.

Enter Now. Once you have entered we will send you an entry confirmation. The Entrant's Kit will follow closer to the date. PLEASE NOTE THAT NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT.

Fundraise Online. Create an online fundraising page
(this can be done during registration) or support a participant's fundraising effort.

Volunteer now. Help at the event by emailing us with your name, contact details and a brief outline of your skills/interests for the event.

If you have any queries about the event, please don’t hesitate to email us at [email protected].

Register Now for the Woodford to Glenbrook Classic - it'll be the best yet!

Just a note - cityrail appears to have scheduled trackwork on that weekend, with some outages on the Blue Mts line.

Looks like trains only west of Penrith, and the timetable is altered.

Just put my entry in
Is there a point where we can meet
Never done this before but can imagine it's a bit crowded
And wouldn't mind meeting up with everyone beforehand

ENTRANTS BRIEFING NOTES

It is important that you read the information contained on these pages.

Welcome from the Organisers

NRMA CareFlight welcomes you as an entrant to the 2009 Woodford to Glenbrook Classic. This event has been running for over a decade and in that time has contributed significant funds to the lifesaving work of NRMA CareFlight Doctors.

NRMA CareFlight is a not-for-profit charity providing a medical retrieval service to critically ill and injured patients. Our specialist doctors attend accidents and hospitals every day to stabilise and transfer patients to specialist care using Ambulance Service Helicopters, NRMA CareFlight Helicopters, Road Ambulances and jets.

Without community support NRMA CareFlight would not be able to undertake these life saving missions every day of the year. The small fee you have paid to enter the 2009 Woodford to Glenbrook Classic funds the set-up and running of the event, however the sponsorship you generate will help fund NRMA CareFlight.

On behalf of the entire team at NRMA CareFlight, I would like to thank all our Volunteers who have worked on the organisation of this event including the Rural Fire Service, St John Ambulance Service, NRMA Volunteers and many more groups and individuals who contribute volunteer hours towards ensuring the event is a success every year.

I would also like to thank the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the NSW Police (Blue Mountains LAC) for their continued support of the event. Their dedication of time and resources is invaluable and I am sure you will join me in thanking them for ensuring the event continues every year.

Thank you again for your entry. We do appreciate your support and thank you in advance for the sponsorship income you will raise to help NRMA CareFlight.

Parking & Transport

City Rail has been supportive of the Woodford to Glenbrook Classic for many years. If you are travelling to the event via train we suggest that you log on to www.131500.info or call 131500 for the latest train times and info. City Rail has advised that this year there will be no bicycles permitted on the trains and asks participants to be aware of trackwork in the Blacktown area. Due to the use of buses trains leaving Penrith may run anything up to 30 minutes late and you may have to adjust your leaving times accordingly on the day.

If you are going to drive your car to the event, we recommend that you park at Glenbrook Railway Station and catch the train to Woodford Station. If you have a bike, that will be transported separately from Glenbrook Railway Station to Woodford by the event volunteers. Following the race finish at Euroka, there will be transport from 1pm back to Glenbrook Railway Station where your car is parked.

There is limited parking at Woodford. Drivers may park their cars on the northern side of the railway line but please show that you care for the local community and do not park across driveways or on gardens. Cars in these areas will be towed away. We recommend parking at Glenbrook if possible.

Euroka is situated within the Blue Mountains National Park, on the Oaks Fire Trail. This means that any vehicles entering the park will be subjected to the National Park Entry Fee of $7 or $12 for Mini-buses. Parking is available at Euroka, however, there is no shuttle service operating from Euroka to the start line so you will need to make your own arrangements for this.

Registration on the Day

Register your attendance and collect your race number and timing chip at the Woodford Railway Station Car Park on the Southern Side of the Rail Line (near the start line). Please note that we require you to complete registration at least 30 minutes prior to your start time. There may be a queue at the registration table so please ensure you arrive with plenty of time to spare.

Late entries to the event won’t be accepted on the day so if you have friends or family who have expressed an interest in entering, please ensure they complete their entry on line before Friday 19 June 2009. If you do know someone who is considering an entry and you think we might be able to “encourage” them with some more information, please feel free to “dob them in” by sending an e-mail to [email protected]

Note there will be no entries available on the day.

Start of the Event

The race starts at the Woodford Railway Station. The following table indicates the start times allocated to each group. These start times may vary on the day dependant on the number of entrants. Males and Females will start together.

Please take good note of your entry group and the start time allocated to that “Wave”. Your “Wave” will be lined up at a pre-start line and staged ready to move up to the start line as the wave in front departs. We will have volunteer marshals there to help with this process.

You may place your personal items into a plastic bag which will be provided to you at the start. Write your race number on the bag using the marker pens provided. Once the last entrant has departed, the bags will be transported to the finish at Euroka. This may mean that some cyclists will experience a delay in their bags arriving at the finish line.

Please note – NRMA CareFlight and its volunteers take all care in transporting these plastic bags to the finish line, but cannot accept any responsibility for loss of, or damage, to personal items.

On the Course!

Refreshments

Fresh drinking water and sports drink Powerade will be available from marshalling points all along the course. Bottled water is not provided during the race. This is to reduce the number of plastic bottles and lids found in the bush. You will be able to purchase drinks at the finish area at Euroka.

Injuries

DO NOT CALL 000. If you receive or witness an injury, ensure someone notifies the volunteers at the next Control Point or Drink Station which are positioned all along the course. All Control Points are in radio communication and all have first aiders.

St John Ambulance is on hand to deliver first aid. An NRMA CareFlight Doctor will also be on hand for the duration of the event. There are areas along the track which have been earmarked as Helicopter landing zones for any serious injuries.

There is no make-up time, so as long as someone has notified the next control point of any incident, you are OK to continue racing. PLEASE NOTE that the course is one direction only – do not proceed against the direction of the race.

2009 FINISH LOCATION!

There is a sharp turn at the end of the trail before Euroka clearing where the course goes downhill into the clearing and on to the Daruk Campground. This change was made last year and was necessary for safety reasons at the finish line. We ask that you keep this in mind as you approach the finish line.

At the finish location there will be a fantastic array of activities and entertainment brought in to make the finish area a great place to relax and enjoy the afternoon with family and friends. Invite them along and make an afternoon of it!

The Lions Club of Springwood will again be supporting NRMA CareFlight by operating the lunchtime BBQ at Euroka. There will be plenty of food for sale – fruit, eggs & bacon, sausages, steak sandwiches, gozleme and pancakes.

A coffee van will be selling hot drinks at both the start and finish lines.

Presentations & Prizes

Presentation of awards will start at 12.30pm for cyclists and 1.30pm for runners.

·1st Prize will be awarded for both male and female entrants in each age category

·A prize for the winning team

·A prize for the highest amount raised

End Time & Transport to Glenbrook

The race will end officially at 2pm. Any entrants who are still on the track at this time will be picked up by the Rural Fire Service truck and taken to the finish at Euroka. The organisers and volunteers of the event cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for persons still on the course after 2pm.

Please note – some food vendors and suppliers at the finish area may cease operation after 2pm. Medical support will remain until 3pm.

There will be mini-buses and Rural Fire Service vehicles available at Euroka from 1pm to transport people back to Glenbrook Railway Station. This will commence at 1pm and conclude once the sweep vehicle has completed the course.

Our Volunteers – Please thank them!

This event has been organised and run by a massive team of Volunteers. Some belong to formal groups such as the Rural Fire Service, St John Ambulance and the Lions Club, and others are individuals who have an interest in helping NRMA CareFlight. From the Registration Desk, to the course marshals, to the finish line assistants and BBQ cooks, ALL of them have given freely of their time to ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable experience. Please take the time to thank them and above all please respect their directions and advice. We thank you for your cooperation with our Volunteers at all times.

If you have a colleague, friend or family member who may be interested in volunteering to help at the event, please have them send an e-mail to [email protected] or call Don Kemble direct on 9689 8124.

More Information?

In the case of bad weather conditions the Woodford to Glenbrook Classic will be postponed to Sunday 30th August. Should the track become unpassable, CareFlight organisers will advise you in advance via e-mail. If in doubt please call 9689 8150 for a recorded message.

If there is anything that is still unclear after having read all of the details above, please don’t hesitate to send us an e-mail at [email protected] and we will respond to your question as soon as possible.

If you have an urgent enquiry please contact Don Kemble on 9689 8124.
