Tooth rescue box availability - Kit to keep in your backpack
I have been investigating what is available in Australia and though fellow MTBkrs would appreciate this info. BTW, I don't work for this company nor do I profit from it's sale - just thought I'd share my research with you.
MTBking can often lead to accidents where a tooth is broken. The chances of it being reimplanted are normally very low. Only 25% of avulsed teeth are successfully reimplanted. This is because the tooth is still 'alive' and can die very quickly before it can be reattached by a dentist.
This led me to investigate what kit I needed to keep in my first aid kit in my hydropack. I thought i'd share this with anyone who is interested in case they too wanted to cover-off on this.
There is a product used in Europe and it's about to be made available via chemists later this year. I've been talking to the distributor here and this is what they say:
"...We are the importers of the tooth rescue box (SOS Dentobox). This product is not currently available but later this year it should be available in pharmacies and first aid kits around Australia. The retail price is likely to be around $49.95. The shelf life of the product is three years. I will need to check with the manufacturer regarding the optimum storage of the product, although I suspect it will be fine for day trips on the mountain bike, so long as it isn't permanently left in very high temperatures..."
The website link for more about this product is: http://www.miradent.com.au/dentobox.html
The SOS Dentobox is an innovative way to prolong the life of broken or avulsed teeth, increasing the chance of successful reimplantation. It contains a patented, ready-made nutrient solution to protect the tooth cells. The tooth (or tooth fragment) can be safely stored in this solution for up to 48 hours, protecting it until it arrives at the dental surgery.
Hope this is useful.
