AMBC/NoBMoB Skills Day
North End of Red Hill Rd, Ourimbah State Forest. There's a large-ish parking area here, just off the main sealed road. There is also a smaller parking area a little further (400m or so from the road) where the trail splits - this second area is the usual meeting point. If you end up driving up a steep hill you've gone too far.
So... let's try this again!
AMBC NoBMoB only skills day at Ourimbah.
Given the last date filled fast, but then had to be pulled due to conflicts at the course (Ourimbah) this has been moved to the following weekend.
The trainer line up will be:
Adrian Whittaker (xc)
Brad Mertens (xc)
Daniel Chermak (xc)
Susan Beck (chix)
Kim Stokeld (chix)
Andy Couper (dh)
With the above Kim says, "can do up to 30 for the xc, 20 for the chix & 8 for the dh"
See the thread linked above for details of cost.
This is a commercial event that will have to be paid for in advance. Please do not click the star unless you understand this.
Update: XC anc Chix course are confirmed and should be booked here (awaiting final confirmation on DH):

Just a reminder... if you're coming to this then you must book on the AMBC website. In fact, that should be the very first thing you do after clicking the star.
I'll be removing the stars for those who haven't booked in a few days and taking a very dim view of anyone that needs that action
I have just booked !! Look out D grade ..... or C if i am shamed into it ....this should be fun ..
Any news about DH yet?
Happy to do either XC or DH so it doesn't really matter to me.
Will wait a couple of days to see what happens.
does this mean girls should do the chix only one or are we allowed in the xc clinic??? not sure of difference besides from girl only? is the girl one easier or for beginners??? not sure which one to lock in, as not a beginner?
Shaz
Dunno. They must run chix courses for a reason, reckon if you're a girl that's the one for you. Erm... you could PM AMBC and ask I guess?
I've already booked for the chix course as thought that was what we had to do but I see now most other females are opting for the Sunday skills day if they run that? Can't see that there will be enough of us to run the separate chix course so maybe we'll just end up withe guys anyway.
Your digging a hole there mate
Maybe MDoldfart could help explain why there are "female" only classes.
I for one think they prefer it as it resembles tupperware parties

to back up my memory so thought better of it. But now that you have opened up the can of worms.
I do have a vague recollection that when AMBC first started posting, this question was asked and they replied that it was so the ladies could feel comfortable learning new skills without being intimidated or made to feel uncomfortable by the presence of "testosterone" fueled males trying to out do each other because of the presence of women. This theory is discussed further here http://nobmob.com/node/9485.
Of course this is just based on my memory which I often comment is like a sponge, full of holes, and I have no intention of searching for where I read this so please take this as a grain of salt.
The Old Fart
...assumptions!!!
MDOldFart - you remember correct, BUT some of us (Christine & I) actually prefer doing the clinic with the guys - it will be so much more fun
I'd feel a bit isolated doing the chix one...
Christine - what's the dress code for this one, though
I'd really like to go to this... in fact I NEED to. Now I know you HAVE to book at the AMBC website but due to slight cashflow problems right now I can't afford to pay at this point, and thus can't book yet. In fact I won't be able to until the 8th of June. Am I still able to put my name down here and book in officially at that date? Or Rob, will you remove me with aforementioned "dim view"?
Colt.
Well... it'd not like this is going to fill up so please don't 'star' here until you can make the other booking.
Ok, will do (or not do, rather). Thanks Rob.
count me in also for wanting to do the clinic with the guys...I agree more fun and laughs! I guess we'll see what AMBC decide on the day....
but both Blondie and Anke have removed their stars from this ride and put their hands up for the Sunday skills day instead.
if it's just me left for the chix I guess it will be with guys then I won't even be noticed....
Hey everyone
Numbers are building for this day ... at this stage we've got 14 signed up for the co-ed XC session and 1 for the chix session. We'll see how it goes with numbers with the chix session, but at this stage it looks like the two groups will be combined as it just makes sense.
As for the DH session, it'll probably come along a month or so later, as will the Sunday one. I'll let Rob know as soon as I've got dates for both confirmed.
For everyone who's registered, we'll send joining instructions in a week or so but essentially expect a fun day and come with a willingness to give it a go and a mind set on learning something!
See you soon!
Cheers, Kim

if at first you don't succeed, try not to look astonished.
I'm such a scrounger (but look at it as being good to the environment).
Can I grab a lift with anyone from around F.Forest?
have let AMBC know...have fun guys.
The skills day actually being run on saturday , looks like a washout from what i can tell ?????
I may just have to console myself with the fact that i rode Sparrow Hill And Stromlo this week and it was dry there
How did i get here ?
As long as the track is OK then I'm up for it, even it there is some rain. I think learning to ride a wet track has to have it's benefits, and even if it means standing around in some wet I would pay $80 for decent tuition.
That said if it's bucketing down I would rather be down the pub in front of a fire with a large brandy
It was wet. It was muddy. We got poured on a few times. But it was a great day and well worth it.
The hot shower when I got home was heaven....

Thanks to the AMBC guys for putting this on, despite the rain we had a great time. Really interesting to examine the track and talk about different lines. Learnt a lot, like how rubbish I am at cornering!
Highly recommended.
But my bike now hates me , i am going out tomorrow to buy it a gift (set of brake pads) so it will talk to me again !!
Looking forward to working on my new found skills of turning around plastic cones at next weeks Sparrow Hill three hour ........ not to mention screaming like a girl on a slightly technical downhill section in the wet .......
Oh yes it was a worthwhile excersise BTW and i learnt a bit too ........if i can just remember where my pedals should be ....
How did i get here ?
The course was awesome, every skill we learnt I put to use during the 8hr today
