Tour Divide
Tour Divide is a solo, self-supported mountain bike race on all 2,745 miles of ACA's epic Great Divide MTB Route. With an average time-to-completion of three weeks in the saddle, this grand tour is the longest, most challenging MTB race on the planet. It's a contest for the ultra-fit but only if ultra-prepared for myriad contingencies of backcountry biking.
Sounds good, eh?

I've been following this one for years, bought books, the map set and waiting for the 'planets to align' so I can do it.
It's awesome to follow - imagine averaging 150km per day in all weather on an mtb for 20+ days!!!!
I dream of doing a 'test run' one year, then racing the following...
There's a great e-story about Kent Paterson who did it on a rigid single speed - The Way of the mountain turtle

This is my initial inspiration to do it!

only for the very fit, self employed, retired rich folk.
i heard a rumour that some dudes run the comrades marathon (90 odd km's), then ride the freedom challenge, and finish off with the berg river canoe marathon (apparently a toughie), but if you get that far...youre certifiable.
Last year, if i remember correctly, the dude who won the freedom challenge rode for 37 hours straight to get a lead towards the end of the race...

These guys are going strong, 30 left out of the original 42 starters.
They've had rain, snow, 50mph winds.
and some pics:

..bet now you wish you had entered the 'burning trails' thing as you could have had a practise run on that Crocodile Trophy thing...
Personally, 150k a day for 20 days sounds hellish...
but then I am only social elite
Nice pics. That dude on the crosser with a bob has probably chosen well.
They are moving along, spread out over 4 states,
