My New Ride - Pivot Mach 4 (56k look out!)
Hey all,
Well, after months of waiting & anticipation, my Pivot Mach 4 frame arrived at the end of last week. I spent the morning building it up at BA (big props to everyone there, especially B.P.!), using all of the parts stripped from my Trance plus a few extras sourced here on the forums & from BA.
I'm stoked in the way that everything came together. All the parts bought over the last 2 years all seem to match the back & red of the Mach 4, and considering I didn't even know about the Pivots until just before X-mas, I'm even more stoked!
I can't wait to get this thing on the trail, which has to wait until Thursday () for a blast around Ourimbah (). The demo ride months ago was far and away better than my Trance, and now I'll be riding my own! It feels so plush, but yet, so responsive!
Possible upgrades are listed in red - Will see how the bike feels with the 100mm stem, as I was coming from a Medium Trance where I needed the extra reach; an XTR derailleur is on the way, just have to wait for it to arrive.

About time mate! I think I saw a finger print in one of those close ups though . Looks great. You'll be riding so often now that your fitness will go through the roof! better get yourself an Angry Dr or Highland Fling ticket . Darren.
Heya Mate,
I figured you'd be one of the first to reply to this one!
I should be fitter than a hummingbird soon, given that Cap'n Commuter is built and running now! (The XTC, in case you were wondering). And given that I've found the joys of riding the XC loop at Appin, it will all be adding up! (Dude, Appin has to be the first place we ride when you get back - you'll love it!)
But as far as race entries go... The Fling is all sold out As is the Angry Doctor
I'm keen to get a couple of 50km races under my belt first, then hit the 100kms after I know I can do it!
I'll be keeping my eye out for entries to the Half Fling & Irate Intern races, but not too sure they'll be up for grabs any time soon...
But Yeah, the Pivot is making me so excited I can't sleep!
I got tickets to both. I havent been to Appin but i hear good things and i'd love to go there when i get home. I have just discovered a sweet 5 kM single track in a local forest that is 15 minutes ride from where i am.
AND it branches out and rejoins so you can make snap decisions to take a different turn and still end up later on at the same end.AND miles of smooth dirt trails for awesome cardio.
AND the roads all have bike paths so you really dont need to stop when your riding to where you want to be. i feel lucky and i will miss it when i get home. I understand that Manly is flooded and flat. i really need to learn how to drive so i can go places more often.
You should get Darian Woods to photograph the bike when its all done. See you soon mate. D.
Mate, that is a dream bike. Congrats.
Love how the Elixirs have the red taperbore
should have got the red proII hubs as well

Well, I would, but he doesn't do anything for free these days - and after the Pivot, I'm needing every cent I can get at the moment

The bike used to be silver, and the hubs went with the Thompson Seatpost, Hope Seatclamp, and silver Hope QR skewers... The trance looked great with all of that together! Now that you mention it though... But Nah, I definitely can't afford new hubs at the moment, or the cost of getting my old ones de-laced & new wheels built...
Pivot seem to do the whole experience beautifully... do they provide a pair of boxers for you to sleep in - so you can be reeeeaaaalll close to yr bike?
Gives me a goal to work toward after my Trance. Have fun!
and absolutely love it!! You will have fun out there!
haha! That's be great - a pair of Pivot Boxers - giving the whole experience a silk lining!
I was out at Ourimbah today, and I'm so buggered it's not funny. I only did 2 laps, but they were pretty hard out laps as I was too excited to go slow!
Here's a couple more pics of the bike in it's natural environment Enjoy!
You really should have gone a black seatpost thought
Looks like it doesn't have QR there on the collar, is that right?
Yeah, I know I should go a black seat post, but I have to save up for it as I really couldn't go anything other than another Masterpiece!
As far as the clamp goes, I don't really need a QR clamp on the Pivot. For what it gets ridden for, there's no point in having a QR. The clamp on there at the moment is the one that comes stock with the Pivot, but I'll probably be changing it to a black hope clamp I've got lying around. There's some subtle white graphics on the Hope clamp the should hopefully go with the white "Pivot" & "Mach4" writing.
Anyone got a black Thomson Masterpiece they want to swap for a silver?
Man, Awesome bike!!!
The silver seat post isn't too bad, since the side of your cranks is silver and the hubs are silver.
Just awesome is pretty much all I have left to say.. hahah
