Hello,

Just thought I would introduce myself and see if I could make contact with riders able to do mid week rides.

My name is Ron. I'm a retired bloke who does a lot of road riding and touring so I'm reasonably fit and I have just bought a MTB to take advantage of the great opportunities to ride off road on the Northern Beaches. From a youth wasted riding motorbikes on tar and dirt, I am not completely clueless when it comes to trail riding but I am nursing a reconstructed shoulder and so like to stick to the safer and less technical trails. I've done Bairne and Towler's tracks so far and didn't have any problems but I could see that riding even the easier tracks by myself is not completely safe, even with a mobile phone for emergencies. So I would appreciate hearing from any NobMob riders who are available for midweek rides.

Oh, I also build wheels for a hobby so if anyone needs any wheel help or advice they should make contact.

Thanks,

Ron

Hey Ron,

Welcome aboard. Smiling

I'm a few weeks behind you, currently going through rehab after a shoulder reconstruction and just now at the end of Week 9. You might like to look at the trail offerings around Terry Hills - Duck Hole, Perimeter and Centre Tracks. They are less technical and better drained than Manly Dam, while still giving a good workout.

At what month did you first get back on the bike?

Would be happy to show yo around once the wing is healed. Smiling

Best,

John

G'day John,

My torn my right rotator cuff (falling off a bike would you believe) was repaired in September 2007. For the first six weeks of immobilisation and hydro-therapy, I just rode my road bike up on the stand - boring as hell but at least I was able to keep fairly fit. The next three months was more intense physio after which (say about 12 weeks) I was back on the bike on the road. About a year after the operation I was able to start kayaking which was great. If you're at nine weeks you must be getting close to riding again. Graeme MacDougal did my operation and he wouldn't let me ride until he was happy the shoulder was strong enough so I guess your doctor will do the same.

Thanks for the trail tips - I plan to do Centre and Perimeter as soon as it gets a bit drier. Look forward to meeting when you're back in the saddle.

Cheers,

Ron
