Mitta Caravan Park

Despite having the reputation as a "gut-buster" it continues to grow in popularity from humble beginnings in 1992 with about 20 riders to 324 in 2003.
Local cyclist Tony Retra developed the idea of the Mitta after competing in the Briagalong to Dargo and back, some time ago!

The first Mitta attracted some roadies, a few xc skiers, and some very keen locals and was won by Tony.
Word soon spread amongst the mountain bike fraternity that if you wanted a challenge - try the Mitta , and Rob Eva a notable mountain biker did, winning in 1993 and 1995.

Thought a couple of hours of technical night riding would be good practice, for hanging on the bike coming down Stromlo Mountain in the dark....... God, I'm looking forward to the Scott.

Change of plan due to the weather. Changed this ride to the more "bike friendly when wet"Royal National Park. You'll need good lights and reasonable night riding skills for this one.

See you there.

Short easy ride.

Check out the Royal Night Ride on the same night. I would go to that but I live in Thornleigh and it's a long drive to Loftus (on a school night) for a short night ride. Did the drive for the last trail-work-day, planning to ride there one day soon. The trails there look good. Quite popular too.

Want to leave Loftus Oval car park at 06:30, head along a bit of the single track in the RNP, then a bit of scumming down to Lady Carrigton Drive, all the way along LCD to some more scumming up to Waterfall. This is where I could get a little lost, but I know there’s a fire trail that goes down to the Woronora dam which is the intended route. From there its back to Heathcote along the pipeline across the Princes Highway and back into the RNP to ride the single track and fire trail back to Loftus Oval.

Going to ride the popular out and back trail, with a small loop thrown in, from Loftus Oval to Heathcote.

There’s plenty of fast flowing single track, a bit of fire trail and a couple of challenging hills thrown in. Pace will be medium (well for me medium, someone else may think it’s slow) and there will be limited stops.

Terrain isn’t too tricky, but good lights will be needed.

Be good to see you there.

From Lithgow head on the Western Highway toward Bathurst. After 10-11Km you will head uphill and see thick pine forest to the right. It's dual carriageway here, and there's a right turn across the other lane into Forest Ridge Drive (signposted and a sealed road). About 50m on the left there's a turning where you can park in the shade. There's also an old concrete section of the highway just past there with masses of parking.
