Steel HT frames

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi guys

I am looking to get a new HT bike soon, possibly something unique.

I was looking at steel framed hardtails and i am just wondering whether its worth it or not?
What sort of experiences have you guys had with steel framed MTB?

My riding only really consists of just all day XC fun and a few XC races here and there.

Look Ma, no shock!

New german brand "Bold Cycles" puts the shock *inside* the frame

Time to get new forks

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I have to either get my Stanchions replaced or buy a new fork.

I believe I will get something new so I have been shopping around and im not finding much to meet my specs.

My bike is a Giant Trance 2011, It needs:
taper steerer
15mm axle
5 inch travel
26 inch wheel

Currently looking at Fox 2015 32 Float 26 120 CTD O/C Evolution $633.00 at TBSM

Looking for suggestions for good alternatives but I am liking the FOX with the CTD?

Wheelset advice

Hey guys,

I have a 2008 Reign X0 with Totems on the front and a Fox RC3 on the rear. It has Minions wrapped around an unknown rim but the rim has "dirtbag DH" stickers on it. It's a downhill-ish bike and I like to ride DH, but there's not a lot of that sort of action around Newcastle so I'm thinking about trading in the VERY heavy wheels/tyres for something a bit lighter to make riding in places like Glenrock a bit easier.

New bike time (What would you build?)

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

The wife has hinted that when tax time comes round I can get a new bike Laughing out loud

Now, what to do? I've always liked the idea of building my own but know that it rarely works out cheaper than buying a ready made bike but at least I'll get what I want. The olny thing is, I don't know what I want!

I know I want a dual sus, race inspired, carbon xc bike that is reasonably high end, but not sure how to get there.

If I did a self build I was thinking of the following but I'm happy to take alternative sugestions:-

Frame
Yeti ASR C or Niner Jet9 RDO or Whyte M10C or something else?

2 x 10 chain rings

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Looking at replacing my worn out chain rings and would like to change them around a bit if possible and looking for advise / experience in doing so before ordering stuff.

Running XT 38 - 26 rings and often find myself in the highest gear wishing there were one more to use. So I'm wondering if it is possible to fit a 40 big ring and keep the 26.

Looking at CRC there seems to be preset options: 40 - 28, 38 - 26 and 38 - 24 so I'm thinking that maybe the size 40 won't fit the cranks or can't be combined with a 26 inner for some reason.

Converting to 1 x 10

Could somebody please help me with selecting the correct rear derailleur cage size.
At the moment i have a non clutch Sram XO rear dreailleur with a long cage, i'm running 11-36 & 24-38T 2 x 10.
I want to go 1 x 10 with Wolftooth 42T rear added, & 32T front. I know i need a new Sram clutch derailleur XO Type 2.1, but will i need a medium or long cage? I also plan on running an MRP AMg guide, will this package run better with the optional 16T Wolftooth sells for rear?
Any help from someone who has done this conversion would be much appreciated.

What is i spec a/b

Hello everyone!

Question i've had for years now. What is the difference between I Spec A and B?

Ive got the saint brakes and i want to get xtr shifter to replace my sram x7. So i'm just curious which configuration i need. Im running 1x10 so i only need the 10speed right hand. Im pretty sure i can run them both on the same clamp with one of the configurations but not sure which one.

Thanks,

Jono.

Reverb dropper post

I just got a reverb dropper post and there is a little bit of sideways twist movement between the internal and external posts. It's not much maybe about 0.5mm side to side at the saddle nose, but it's enough to notice when ridding. Wondering if this is normal? Or if anyone has had the same issue?
