Bike and accessory talk. How do I fix my brakes? What's a good fork for me? Check out this hot bling! etc.

Creaky Cranks

Hey, probably a fairly basic question but any help would be appreciated.
I noticed today that as I was riding, especially when putting more pressure on the pedals, the cranks seemed to be making a creaking noise that was gradually getting worse.
Do they just need tightening with an abnormally large sized allen key that doesn't exist in Dad's toolbox? Or is there something completely different that could be wrong.
Might not even be anything, but its good to know how to stop these things and hopefully have nothing fall off...

**STOLEN BIKE** Scott Hi Octane

Hi Guys
This is not how I hoped my first post on the site would turn out but anyway

I went down to my garage in Harbord this morning to find it unlocked and my downhill bike gone. Surprisingly nothing else was touched including my partner and I's XC bikes (both much lower value than this bike), surfboard and power tools which makes me think whoever it was knew what they were looking for. Recently I had been tuning the bike up and cycling around the block checking adjustments etc.

In search of a longer stem, for the bike

I'm looking for a longer stem than I currently have and am hoping someone out there has a spare they can lend me for a couple of weeks so I can see how it feels before I go off spending money on one.

So heres what I am after in an ideal world

1 1/8 steerer
25.4 bar
approx 6 degree slope
120 or 130 mm long

If you have something like this sitting around your spare parts box and are happy to lend it too me for a couple of weeks plese PM me.

Any variations on slope or length will be good as long as it is longer than 100mm.

Cheers

Stuart

MTB Skills

Hello all,

Does anyone know of any groups/organisations where you can learn Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced MTB skills? Preferably in or near Sydney.

I know the best practice is time in the saddle but I certainly have picked up a few bad habits (like crashing) on the way,

I did a training course some time ago in the UK it really helped my confidence and let me understand the basics. I would like to hone my skill and learn how to hit the bigger jumps, gaps etc without the damage to my ego and bike.

Cheers
JJ

Calling all tall riders

Im 6ft 2 " tall and fed up getting different information from shops in what size frame I should get.
I tried out a LARGE Cannnondale Rush and it felt quite short and was assured at the time that I needed a large and not extra large.
I would like to know if anyone who is the same height as me what bike they ride and what frame size. In particular Specialized, Cannondale, Yeti, Santa Cruz and Giant.
Any other advise, tips etc would be greatfully received.
Thanks

Rear Shock Issue

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi Guys/Girls, First time poster, long time reader.

Could anyone help me with the following issue in regards to my rear shock Rock Shox MC 3.1 which has started to squeak quite loudly in the first 1-2 mm of travel.

I've cleaned the outer of the rear shock and tried taking out all the air pressure, inverting the bike and cycling the rear shock a couple of times and that removed the squeak (i think the cycling of the shock travel a couple of times has rebathed the internals with shock oil).

Bike carrier

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Ladies & Gents,

I'll have to buy a bike carrier (hoping that my dear wife will join now that we have successfully procured a baby seat for my bike).
I am looking for a specific type (if I can get it): it should go into the tow bar hitch, and should support the wheels rather than suspending the bikes from a top mount. 2, better 3 bikes capacity.

I noticed something like that on the back of a white pickup; not sure who it belongs to but I think the gent joined one of the night rides, too.

Many thanks in advance for hints re who manufactures such a carrier, and where to buy.

Cheers

Clarance street cycle's

In June I bought a trek top fuel 9.8 from the above shop, it is carbon fibre and the cable to the back shock gouged the main frame of the bike by 3mm deep.

Oh the chain, the chain

Has anyone ever experienced any shifting problems with an HG93 chain? I recently swapped the running gear (except derailleurs) from one bike to another recently purchased (2nd hand), including my HG93 chain. All the shifting problems I had with my previous bike have been transferred to my current bike. I only swapped a new XT cassette and cogs + the chain. Talking to Tien, he said he had similar problems that were solved when he replaced his 93 chain with another brand. I bought a few of these chains from torp 7 for $20 and don't want to buy another chain unless I have to.
